Mogami, Baby!

Not to be misunderstood... my jab was aimed at a reason for JB and I to hang out....

I do know this ....Some guys prefer blonds... I like brunettes.... there are many "electrical" and "physical" reasons one cable may be "spec superior" to another.... but what it all boils down to is how it sounds to "your" ears... and if a cable helps get your "voice" across better then good for that...

Cheers!

Fair enough. Guess you could say that I never really skimped on patch cables really. The cheapest I have are the Spectraflex ones... ph34r.gif

Exactly. My guess is that the difference between the Spectraflex and Mogami would be tiny, if any. The length of the cable and the fact that they are both well made would be huge factors.

Yup. Only reason why I'm getting Evidence Audio Lyric HG patch cables made is because my pedalboard will use up almost as much cable as a single instrument cable, which by then would have significant change in tone that I would upgrade if I can afford to anyway. (give or take almost 10 foot of patch cables alone)...

Speaking of which, my first choice would be for you to come up here, as I have re-invented the living room stereo and re-centered it on analog vinyl playback. I have the complete Steely Dan, Cars, and Police discographies on vinyl, plus lots of Beach Boys, some Brian Wilson, Steve Miller, Fabulous Thunderbirds, SRV, Clapton, The Who, Pink Floyd, Jeff Beck, the Stones (thanks, Santellavision), Ray Charles, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Miles Davis, Gary Burton, Dave Brubeck, Buddy Rich, Pat Metheny, John Abercrombie, Herb Ellis, Joe Pass, etc., etc.

But if you want me to come south with my ASAT bass and Eden amp, I'm in, and I'll throw in a horsewhipping with the Mogami cable.

"Yeah the doofus who posted this on The Gear Page did so thinking he was exposing DLR's lack of vocal ability. Turns out the only thing he exposed was himself as someone who's obviously never been in a recording studio before and is most likely the stereotypical Gear Pager: some clueless professional type who's into guitars and music out of hero worship and a desire to recapture the excitement of his youth that's sorely lacking from his middle-aged adult existence. He's been soundly lambasted for his opinion, and rightly so."

You, sir, are an anal unit.

Perhaps I missed the joke. If so, regrets. He comes off as a jerk, though. Consider.....

I made popcorn.

Got my big comfy leather chair.

Going to sit back and enjoy the show from a comfortable distance.

The background to this story is that you had to read Ranger's other thread to know what shape his head was in last night. Suffice it to say that he was having a pretty good "escape" weekend!

You also had to read the original TGP thread I referenced in the quote from Poe's signature. Some guy ripping on DLR's solo vocal track from "Runnin' With the Devil" and thinking he'd be congratulated for his observation. Little did he know that anyone who knows anything about music was able to recognize it as the brilliant vocal that it is. Epic fail on that guy's part, and thus my reaction.

Methinks Ranger's sleeping off whatever he was on last night!

Ranger has posted 47 times in 30 months of membership, of which 9 happened yesterday when he was "flying". See the Steve Howe thread. Makes the old Brooks threads seem quaint.

In searches for vendors of premium instrument cable, I came across Lava Cable, who works from bulk cable and terminates in-house. This also enables them to offer options such as a Neutrik silent plug (straight or right angle) for an additional $7.50 and nylon mesh sheathing in a wide variety of colors and patterns.

Lava is probably the best deal around for Mogami Gold: They terminate Mogami 2524 (the stock for the Gold series) with a rugged high quality connector. The packaged 18-foot Mogami Gold retails at $52.95. Lava Cable does it for $36.95. You can get a ten-footer for $25.95, which is about what I paid for that Peavey cable.

Lava offers a broad range of premium brands--Cardas, VOVOX, Van Den Hul, Evidence, George L., Canare, and others.

Lava cable is the bee's knees...I've had 4 or 5 for about 3 years now, some of which have been on every tour I've done and I've had no problems with them at all. He's really expanded his line since I got mine-back then you could only get Canare or George L's cable. Really really good stuff and based right here in North Carolina.

Lava Cable http://www.lavacable.com has been around and well respected for ages. I've had him do lots of stuff. It's just not worth the bother for me to do it anymore.

Lately I've had things done by Bayou Cables, http://bayoucables.com/

I like to have my cables in specific colours so I don't get in those "That's MY cable" arguments, and Bayou carries Canare in colours.

I've heard that Lava Cable didn't want the Canare competition so he's kind of pulled out rather then compete.
