hardheartedbill Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 this is the coolest, don't forget, John Bonham made a regular practice of showing up and heckling Tull, it seems it was a fav activity of his LOL
kizanski Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 .............5 6 7 8 ! HAHAHA! Look! I doofuss chorus line!
pesocaster Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 Coolest Hamer player? Vernon Reid..... Hands downBare was cool and all ... but Reid KILLS!
Jack C Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 True 'dat. They're like a sub-genre unto themselves. Who else sounds like Tull?Reminds me of a quote from Davis St. Hubbins:"I would also like to say — because he's too modest to say it himself — that Nigel belongs in that company because he is one of the premier lead guitarists and stylists. No one plays quite like him. No one even tries."
mirageman Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 hey guys nice pictures,i knew you were secret tull admirers after all, just scared to admit it.oh and john bonham he was a very good drummer, what else was he good at ?mmmmmmmmm! ah yes drinking and fighting, would have made a good president for you guys i think whos the elvis lookalike with the acoustic guitar?
darc Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 Woah, forgot about Reid. Yes, very good candidate. As for the greatest US band (and the legacy of great UK bands) I'll vote for the increasingly American incarnations of King Crimson post-1980. Aerosmith gets my vote for most likely to buy any POS from any ghostwriter whatsoever. And then market hotsauce.
silentman Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 You guys are forgetting that I'm the coolest Hamer player, EVA!
hardheartedbill Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 hey guys nice pictures,i knew you were secret tull admirers after all, just scared to admit it.oh and john bonham he was a very good drummer, what else was he good at ?mmmmmmmmm! ah yes drinking and fighting, would have made a good president for you guys i think whos the elvis lookalike with the acoustic guitar? no politics on the main board, K? this is your second or third shot at Americans, make it your last please
jettster Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 If we are talking about best guitarist to ever play Hamers...... Neil Zaza comes to mind. Tech, taste, phrasing and feel, the man has got it all.
kizanski Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 Coolest Hamer player? Vernon Reid..... Hands downBare was cool and all ... but Reid KILLS! Not fer nothin', but when it comes to "Hamer's coolest player," Barre is about #47 or thereabouts. Not that he's not a fine player, but he has done little to help the brand outside of an ad or two in the late '70's.I think guys like Rick Nielsen, KK Downing, Glen Tipton, Steve Stevens, and Jeff Watson would take umbrage with calling Barre the coolest Hamer player, that's for sure.Rule of thumb: If you have a Hamer model named after you, THEN you're hot shit.
Hamerica Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 this one is stupidest Wait a minute.....that's Skeez!!!
Buzzy Fretts Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 I'm surprised at you, Kiz. You know I have this.... What you guys are missing here is that anderson almost never stood still the whole night. That pose rarely lasted more than a second. A reviewer back in the day referred to him as a paganinni on speed. And while he was doing some extraordinary gymnastics the band was cranking some of the tightest progressive rock I've ever seen or heard. Tight beyond belief. On par with Yes and Crimson at their best. I know cause I saw them all many times- sometimes in the same week. I'm quite sure that not a single flute-basher here actually saw the band in their prime. Right? I saw Barre during his recent tour to support the new album. he still has some fine chops too. PS Tull and Zep used to constantly exhange good-hearted ribbing. They were equals in their day and they used to play it up.
kizanski Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 I'm surprised at you, Kiz. You know I have this.... I'm well aware, Frank...believe me.
mirageman Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 Hurrah at last someone who knows some thing about music :-buzzyfrets you must be as old as me,i saw those bands every other week and appreciate there talent same as yourselfplease educate these youngsters as they obviously know nothing about musicsorry to hardheartedbill for being too politcal obviously my sense of humour is too sarcastic for himbut thats being british same as ian anderson standing on one leg, we dont take things that serious (ala montY python check the spelling bill)this thread started of quite interesting with some good comments from some of you and was somewhat spoilt by a childish attitude from some of youplease let me hear Your mp3,s they must be greative played hamer guitars for 26 years having owned 12 different models and few people in the uk have heard of them ive got fender and gibson but still think hamer ruleBarre tried his upmost to push these guitars but when Paul Hamer left the company i think he got disallushoned (check the spelling bill)
BCR Greg Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 Not to sound like a stupid colonist, but many with "childish" opposing views here CAN play the paint off of a Hamer. Martin Barre is why I play Hamers, after seeing him in 1978, I went out and bought a new Sunburst. I had that guitar until it was stolen in 1992. In 1996, I became a Hamer dealer.I think Martin Barre did a lot for Hamer earlier, but to say that he's the best Hamer guy when he plays STRATOCASTERS is a bit of a toss.

Things often get "childish" 'round these parts. Hardheartedbill can say what most people can't when he's holding a guitar, so he can spell as poorly as he likes. We allow him that in exchange for the music he makes, and I think anyone that has heard him play would agree that we get the better part of that deal.Notice, no one poked fun at your terrible punctuation or lack of capitalization.Martin Barre is a great player. No one is arguing that point. On the other hand, there are many that don't enjoy the flute, especially when it is ruining what could have been a rockin' song. When that flautist is going out of his way to gesticulate and display all sorts of histrionics, it becomes that much more unenjoyable. I am not alone in my opinion, Gov'ner.I don't know what your 26 years of playing Hamers has to do with Martin Barre, or anything else in this thread, but I assure you, a dozen Hamers is not going to impress anyone here, so ease back, save the politics for the political threads in the Outer Circle, and check your facts before you tell someone how wrong they are.Or do you need more photos of Ian Anderson's nut sack?
hardheartedbill Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 I've got MP3's all over the net, CD's too. I'm a memeber of ascap w/ 40 titles to my credit,I've played in every major club on the east coast, made 2 albums in major studio's, been live on Japanese radio, I've had Jimmy Fuckin Page praise my playing ( uh yeah ) guys in the Dixie Dregs approve of my music, Jimmy Herring will tell ya I can play, Warren Haynes calls me the best guitarist in Asheville NC, I'm in a fuckin BOOK about music. Look at your posts all lower case and were checking spelling, lame lame lame. YOU are missing the good natured fun and taking thing to seriously pal
hardheartedbill Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 and I've got a freaking Hamer endorsement , somehow I passed their speeling test
Guest pirateflynn Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 To me, some of the most blistering classic rock guitar riffs and solos were recorded by the great Jethro Tull guitarist Martin Barre. When I think of a great Hamer player that makes me proud to own Hamers, it is Martin. This thread has gotten a little off topic. Some might not like the minstrel theme, some might not even like flute players but Martin Barre is an excellent guitarist. His image and playing is forever linked with Hamer. I too became Hamer aware because of Martin Barre and .........Rick Nielson, of course.Plus, Mr. Barre looks pretty cool in the promo ad playing a Sunburst!Thumbs up for HHB. The clips I've heard are very good.
