esquared Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 on eBay... not mine or affiliatedI think it is an import but maybe someone could confirm? On that note did Hamer USA ever make an acoustic, how about without pickups? I am not thinking the duotone, this one on ebay looks a lot thicker like a true acoustic? Thanks
edgar_allan_poe Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Import jazz box, I forget the name but it wasn't a bad instrument for the price.

specialk Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Too thick to be an Echotone. I've never seen this model.
Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Too thick to be an Echotone. I've never seen this model. The echotone is also a double-cut, this is a single cut.
Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Z-5 or J-5, depending on the year.I didn't find anything under either of those designations. However, that did help me find some reviews on Harmony Central under the name "Jazz 5." So, close enough. The reviews sound pretty good. The Guitar Blue Book says the model number is JZ5, and is grouped with the Improv, even though the Jazz 5 is a single cut and the Improv is a double cut. Only made in 2001 and 2002. Not collectible, but probably not all that common. This raises the question: Since the Echotone is probably the import version of the Improv, what is the Jazz-5 an import version of?
cmatthes Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 This raises the question: Since the Echotone is probably the import version of the Improv, what is the Jazz-5 an import version of?There is no import version of the Improv. The Echotone is the import version of a Gibson 335 and the J-5 / Jazz 5 is the Hamer version of a generic Gibson/Guild hollowbody Jazzer.
zenmindbeginner Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 The "5" stands for the Gibson L5 model that Wes and Kenny Burrell used.
gorch Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 They produce some models on the import line that seem not to appear in the main catalog or the homepage. I've seen another model on the bay last summer I think that was unusual too.

Hamerweizen Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Import, the "Duncan Designed" is the first giveaway. Interesting narrative on the posting though. Damn ingrate kids!"After looking at a Les Paul we couldn't afford, I bought this guitar for one of my sons as a substitute peace offering. It wasn't what he wanted and, consequently, he never played it, not for even fifteen minutes. He and "Eve" took off several years ago. Partaking the "forbidden fruit", they left us and the things they didn't want behind."
