Special on eBay

I sent the seller a couple of questions and asked if this was actually and FM? the seller replied that he had asked Hamer and they had told him it was a Special FM.

So now I am confused (that was not difficult)... I thought the FM stood for Flame Maple but ment a solid maple body not just a Flame Maple top? Is there a different designation for the ones that are solid maple?

Thanks

I don't think I've ever seen a Special with a solid flame maple body. Not saying that they didn't make one, but I've not come across it if they did.

The closest thing I've ever seen to flame maple front and back on a Hamer was on some of the short scale basses, but even that had mahogany in the middle, the maple simply 'capping' the front and back.

I've seen a few solid flame maple B-12s basses, but not a Special. I think a couple of members here have those in their stables, actually.

Is there a solid maple body LP style Hamer?

There was a Monaco done for Steve Ambrose here ("Phoenix"), but I thought that was a hollow/semi hollowbody.

in 98 or so, Hamer changed the name from FM special to Special Custom

I think I've see that piece around, those pics are way too contrasty or

something... I don't think it warrants any consideration at $1200... $700

would be a different story...

This one's been for sale on E-Bay for quite some time. I offered $600 a few months ago when it was listed with a best offer option. The seller told me they couldn't take less than a grand for it. Great shape, but still pricey for what it is.

Is there a solid maple body LP style Hamer? or double cut?

Apparently, many of the Korean Import series guitars (circa 2000) had maple bodies and necks:

The Import Stellar 1 was clearly a nod to the success of Paul Reed Smith guitars, with slightly offset double-cutaways, the upper horn extended a bit. This featured a maple body with a set maple neck. The top was carved, highly figured "silky maple." The unbound two-octave fingerboard had pearl dot inlays. A three-way, volume, tone, finetune bridge and stop tailpiece rounded out the Stellar 1.

The Import Californian was our old 27-fret friend, again pretty much the same except for having a solid maple neck and body.

The Import Diablo, too, was similar to its forebear, with maple body and neck.

Oy...$1925 BIN, and no case? I'm pretty sure I paid $625 for my Green FM Special...and that was before the economy tanked.
