Boutique stratocaster pups, similar to ssl-1's?

I think I am gonna change pups in my T-62. So far it leans on the Duncan Surfer Antiquity II's.

From what I understand they are a boutique version of the Duncan SSL-1, and the SSL-1's in my Centaura had just the strat sound I love.

What other choices of strat pickups that sounds similar to the SSL-1 are out there. Which Dimarzio version sounds close to them, any of the Area series?

Other boutique winders, or other pickup brands, that are great with this type of sound?

Don't know about the SSl-1's. I have Dimarzio Area 61's in my Centaura and finally really like them after a capacitor change. I also have a T-62. I put Lollar Blackface pups in it and that guitar kills in any position. I will never change the pups in that thing. It is wired with a RS guitarworks 280k pot for volume and a 250k minipot for tone (the guitar was modded and no longer has the Copeland TC300 preamp they originally came with) with a .047 cap. The cleans are phenomenol and leads on the bridge pup are yummy on either my Mesa DC-5 or VHT 50/12. I've montioned these pickups in numerous threads before. Jason Lollar does a great job!

Edited to add: This is the "Ask the Experts" section and I'm by no means an expert  .

I'll chime in before an actual expert does so.

I was just looking at

, today... and NOISELESS! Haven't heard them outside the confines of this hugely compressed video file though. Punkavenger seems very pleased having put a 61 in the bridge of his Phantom A5.

Don't know about boutique. Fralins and Kinimans get rave reviews (though for different things, accuracy and noiselessness, respectively). My Strat is loaded with mundane (relative the boo-tique brands) Fender Texas Specials, which I like because they sound like a Strat pickup should, but meatier in the mids and there isn't such a huge difference between their output strength and that of a PAF-y humbucker. That helps when moving from guitar to guitar.

Email Aaron at Rumpelstiltskin Pickups...(yeah I know the name is odd) but this dude can wind anything single-coil....he is a Strat & Tele pup master at a relatively young age...check out the FDP & TDPRI for rave reviews...I have a set in a pine tele & they are the best tele pups I have ever heard...

The best part is his prices are reasonable....tell him what you want & he will wind it for you...if he doesn't nail it, he'll take 'em back...

Rumpel pups are great...

DISCLAIMER ... I wouldn't say the 61 sounds vintage in my Phantom. Just really good. But it obviously it all depends on the guitar, wood, position, scale etc. Everyone seems to rave about the 61's ... so worth a shot especially for the price.

Can a cap change take of some of the shrill top in the pups I have in there now?

When it comes to strat pickups I know absolutely nothing.... Last strat I owned was in the mid 80's.

Personally I think the Fralin Blues specials are the best in an actual S-type, where you're not worried about a little background noise... check into those for authentic vintage sound. Hum canceling 2 and 4 position. I had those in my Daytona with blender pot. Cool set up.

Oh, so I see you're putting these in a T-62 ... Hmmm, that makes it more complicated! I might go with the Area 61's or similar in a T-62. Ah Hell, I dunno. Trial and error I guess.

Read this recently and found it helpful. One of the best things I've done to eliminate 'shrill' was moving the second tone control to the bridge pickup. No more shrill for me.

I'm looking for noise cancelling neck and middle pickups with a classic hollow/quack tone (like the beginning of little wing).

I haven't seen any boutique guys do hum cancelling, please correct me if I've missed one.

So, for matching with the output of a humbucker bridge, I've narrowed down the options to Duncan's newer model Classic Stack Plus, or the Dimarzio Area '61.
