GC Ron Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 1984 Hamer Phantom A5. All original with original case. 3+3 headstock with the original locking Schaller tuners and it has the Sustain Block trem bridge. The color is a gun metal grey with a green tint and I do not know what the official name for the color is. The guitar changes looks depending on how bright the lighting is and is difficult to photograph. The third photo is the most accurate I could get for how it looks under lower lighting. The guitar is excellent condition and is very clean with the expected pick marks on the pick guard. There are a couple of bump marks the the left edge of the top where your arm rests while playing that can be seen in the photos. There is a rectangular area below the neck joint where a dealer had a stick on type price tag which has a different color perhaps the original shade? Very minimal fret wear. I have been on the Birds And Moons forum for quite a few years and it was suggested there that I put this up here. Dropping the price from $800 to $700 shipped CONUS. This is a personal guitar that I know will haunt me but I am on the trail of something different so it needs to go.
DavidE Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 GCRon has a GREAT reputation over on BirdsandMoons.com.
serial Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 The official color is "gunmetal grey"... Phantoms are GREAT guitars.
mathman Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Did these come with the same pickups as the prototype II's did? How to they compare, soundwise with a 84ish prototype II?
GC Ron Posted April 7, 2010 Author Posted April 7, 2010 Price drop to $700 shipped CONUS before going to eBay.
Rhys Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 I'm loving this guitar............What is the neck profile like on Phantoms?
Punkavenger Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 I'm loving this guitar............What is the neck profile like on Phantoms?Perfect! slightly chunky medium (at least on mine)Did these come with the same pickups as the prototype II's did? How to they compare, soundwise with a 84ish prototype II?Sounds beefier than a Prototype ...
GC Ron Posted April 11, 2010 Author Posted April 11, 2010 I'm loving this guitar............What is the neck profile like on Phantoms? The neck on this one is nearly identical to my '85 Steve Stevens I, both of which are a tad thinner than my '94 Studio.
GC Ron Posted April 17, 2010 Author Posted April 17, 2010 Still available. I'm surprised with the talk I have seen about Phantoms here that there has been nearly zero interest although this thread has 450 hits.
cmatthes Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Patience! The 6-in-lines sell within minutes usually, but the 3X3s tend to take a little longer to move. That's a particularly nice one - somebody'll snag it!
bubs_42 Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 This is the first Hamer i've seen with the Locking Tuners. That's a good looking Axe!
mathman Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 The A5 is one I've been wanting and yours looks great to me, but I took the plunge on a 84 Prototype II which is just nearly perfect. I've love the shape of the phantom and lust mightily over one, but I can't make myself sell the proto to fund a phantom. Guess, I am wimping out. Hopefully, the real estate market will turn around and I can sell my part of some land and invest in something different!edited, to add the 84 proto I bought has locking tuners.

I love it but money too tight.
GC Ron Posted April 21, 2010 Author Posted April 21, 2010 Still available.I'll be putting up another guitar shortly that I hope I will have better luck moving.
