Marshall half-stack? Cool. Sounds great.

rented backline, it was a benefit for Make a Wish foundation, I set it clean and used a barber direct drive for gain

Bill, if you ever need a big amp behind you again let me know and I can drive something up the mountain.

cool! I might have to invent a reason! you should hear my Tophat 112, it's unreal through the big system, like Band of Gypsys in a lunchbox LOL

Great stuff, and more fodder for my confusion as to why a cover band would need a demo CD versus a video like this that proves they can draw a crowd (ideally a thirsty, free-spending one).

we did this in place of a demo, much better for booking! MCC is right

So few people realize this until it's too late.

A legend forms before our very eyes.

Nice to see you Bill... :D

But of course this was a benefit gig and I saw some young faces in the crowd. I'm guessing there were lots (if not most of the) people who were there for the benefit and not part of your regular audience. I could be wrong... I think you run the risk of raising a bar owner's expectations that you're going to have the same crowd at bar gigs or the light show etc...

For example (real gigs, but not really a typical bar gig):

Still better than sending a recording of how well your band can nail "Last Dance with Mary Jane." Impressive, but if it doesn't keep the cash register ringing, who gives a shit?

That one made me laugh! :D

True 100% that a good video demo is best, but we have a great one (big stage, great crowd, lights, great sound) and every single time but one that I brought it around, the club would ask for am audio cd because they either weren't going to watch the DVD or they didn't have a handy DVD player. Fortunately, we had audio CDs!

I never understood the benefit of a slick audio cd but that's apparently what bars are looking for around here (if they honestly care at all). We get plenty of bookings from one owner referring us to another.

well, I wondered why I was shown so little, turns out the singer told the video guys that the one guy was an extra guitarist ( the lefty ) and not always there, guess they got us confused LOL
