Hamerhack Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 For some reason or another, this thing spoke to me. I didn't need it, couldn't really justify it, but I had to have it! It just beckoned and I finally relented. There are loads of incredible guitars on the HFC every day, but for some reason this is the one I felt compelled to go for. I think the fact that outside of the HFC, nobody knows or cares how cool it is was part of the appeal. Kind of a sleeper. No fancy top, love 'em or hate 'em bullet holes, but the DuoTone is a unique Hamer design. The fact that it was part of a super special Greg-ordered CT flat top run is also super cool. I took it to a jam session the other day. Not one comment. I kinda like that! I know what it is, I don't care if anyone else does. Photo and guitar courtesy of BCR Greg. Is there one (maybe even logic defying) guitar you just had to have (or would like to?). (I only have a few guitars, so this was an easy pick for me.)
Dasein Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 That's such a sweet piece. And I hear you about the jam.... like having an enormous secret and no one knowing.... secrets of the universe kinda stuff. Cool guitar. Very nice. This thread could easily be one of those "I covet you ____ " kind of things. --- I aint afraid to say - I covet this one!
serial Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 I LOVE that red Duo12 that Greg did! Wish I'd had the scratchola when he had it for sale, but glad it's in a happy home-that's an awesome guitar. This is a guitar that is nothing that I ever saw myself really having to get, but after spending a minute or two with it, I started to like it more and more. Pusherman Platzer let me take it home for a couple days and I used it in the studio and it sounded great. The next day, I moved a guitar that's a lot rarer and very cool, but that wasn't getting played enough. This guitar is just FUN!
specialk Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 This one: I had been lusting for this one ever since I saw the first picture of it. The perfect color of the perfect guitar for me. I wasn't ready for it when it became available, (in the middle of moving cross-country) but I jumped anyway. Damn glad I did! It's coming to the grave with me.
HAMERMAN Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 When my lefty Yellow Chap sustainer came up on ebay I really had no choice but to buy it. Thankfully the Yellow color seems to have been a minus for other bidders because if I had not won it that may have been "the one that got away".
Jeff R Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 Someone pick me up off the floor. Now THAT'S an SG in my opinion. I'd love to get a white one but I'd run with any color of old skool wraptail SG Junior I could get my hands on.
JimHalinda Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 I saw my Phantom Custom at a local store and it reminded me of the SS1 I had back in the day. So I tried it out, clean, through a small practice amp.The clean sounds were so good I bought it right away. It just felt right, and looked gorgeous (mine is the amberburst version). At jams it just quietly gets the job done, it is definitely my best all-arounder, the one to grab for open stages where I don't know what I'm going to be playing. It hardly ever gets noticed, but a few guitar players have taken a closer look and were surprised by the high quality and superb fit and finish.I like the fact that it's a sleeper.Regards,Jim
BubbaVO Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 That guitar is awesome. Simple stripped down rockn'roll machine. What amp really suits it?

eightyfour Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 Les Pauls: typically overpriced, often over-rated, and frequently diss'd by the corksniffer masses, but I've always gotta have one around. Yes, unlike Hamer and many other brands you do have to comb through the pile to find a good one, but when you've found it, it's magic.

I think that guitar is just about the perfect rock guitar.
serial Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Original P90. It sings on the high gain stuff on my Duoverb.
