Stike Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 So I'm at me bench this morning doing some finish sanding on a body and barely notice our office manager giving a shop tour, these are common and hardly go noticed. Anyway she stops at my bench and says "Stike, I'd like you to meet Mr. Bo Diddley." I look up and holy shit there he is. Wish I'd had some maracas at work for him to sign . Bo's in town for the Durham Blues Festival and just decided to stop by. Anyway so while he's being shown around I remember that under a bench somewhere are a couple of rectangular scraps of mahogany that have been routed for a neck and two pickups. Without really thinking that he might be a crotchity old man who doesn't ever want to see a rectangular body ever again I hand it to him saying we got something special for him. Fortunately he's a funny old dude 'cause he 'bout doubled over laughing. He hung out a while, told some stories, posed for some pics, and autographed the spraybooth. Very cool to meet one of the forefathers of rock n' roll.

Abaco Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 That's a cool story. Good for you.I've gotten to meet and chat with Robben Ford a couple times and, for me at least, it felt pretty huge. Got to perform with Dave Meniketti on his 50th birthday and that was insane.Gotta love those box guitars...haha.
shankyboy Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Belgian, you're gonna love Guy Forsythe. I did sound for him one time and he was the easiest customer I ever worked with. (I have the board recording of that show. Killer player & Singer)
belgian Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Belgian, you're gonna love Guy Forsythe. I did sound for him one time and he was the easiest customer I ever worked with. (I have the board recording of that show. Killer player & Singer) I know the man. I follow him since his first CD (that came out on a Dutch label), in that period he played steaming Texas blues. Now he went into more personal music. Two years ago, he was playing in the area so I went to see him backstage. It was on a festival and after the show he (and Wendy Colona -also a great singer) came to my place, to talk about music and have a nice whiskey (I specially opened a Midleton very rare Irish wiskey for him). The day after he was free, so I picked him up at his hotel and we went touring in Belgium. I showed him Bruges and Ypres and the Flanders Fields (WW1 battlefields). The day ended with Guy playing "Christmas in the trenches" on my terass. He's a fantastic performer and that "private" concert just with me and my 3 daughters was great (wish I had pictures of that day).So we stayed in contact, and I am on the guestlist for the Belgian concerts of his European tour.ps please check your messages Shankyboy
shankyboy Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 That's an awesome story about Guy!! It's always nice when you meet a hero and he turns out to be a good person. I have met so many of my "heroes" that turned out to be either really strange or complete a$$holes.(Belgian) I saw the email and will reply shortly.
