velorush Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 "Vintage Tube Guitar Amp"Dig that cool chrome handle! Looks like it could be a fun project, however, the 'modifications' to the cabinet do not bode well for the rest of the piece...
cmatthes Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I've seen that handle on some old Alamo and Gretsch amps, but couldn't tell you any more about it than that!Alpep? Willie G.?
hamerhead Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 A small old *working* tube combo for $150? Ya gotta bite, don't ya? Go for it!!
crunchee Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Mmmmmm...beefy transformer...(drool). It's kinda hard to tell what make it is...I think I've seen that kind of grillcloth (with the 'drizzle' design) on old Guild amps of the '50's or early '60's, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything for sure. The tubes kinda look like 'average' common types, do you have a list of the tube compliment? If the tubes it uses are ones that are still readily available, then that's a GOOD thing.
dewey finn Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Based on the handle and grill cloth I think it is a Gretsch.
mirrorimij Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Maybe an Alamo Montclair Reverb with changed handle (might be original to that amp but mine didn't have that style handle)?I had one. Great amp!
veatch Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Handle looks like it came off of an old refrigerator...
velorush Posted May 25, 2011 Author Posted May 25, 2011 Forgot to post the follow-up to this: emailed the seller and he said it'd sold a couple of hours after he listed it. He had a couple other amps for sale, but nothing so quirky and interesting (or cheap).
