crunchee Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Has anybody converted their mid-90's Studio from the original Wilkinson wraparound bridge, to a TonePros wraparound bridge? What difference did it make in the sound, other than the fact that the TonePros setup is intonatable like a TOM or the old Badass bridge? Any increase/decrease in treble/midrange/bass? Any change in string attack, sustain, or decay? Did you use the TonePros locking studs, too? TIA!
murkat Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Have done a few for artists back the GCS. they were better than others. The posts are great.
bruce919 Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Get one of these. I have them on two of my wrap tail guitars. Best wrap tail I have found & they look cool as well. http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Bridges,_tailp...ail_Bridge.html

MCChris Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 I did. Soundwise I didn't notice any sort of staggering improvement. The main thing to keep in mind with the TonePros is that is has a high profile, so if you like super-low action, you should probably opt for the Pigtail version.
edgar_allan_poe Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 I have a Schroeder on my....get this...SCHROEDER. lol Great tailpiece.
atquinn Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 I can't tell any sonic difference between the intonatable wraparound on my current Special and the Wilky on my other (red) Special, but I like the fact that the strings can't "wander" on the intonatable one. Action-wise, it's as low as my other Special too. I'm not sure exactly what wraparound I have though. If it's a pain-in-the-ass come string-changing time; I'll know it's a Tonepros - Austin

burningyen Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I believe the phrase you're looking for is "accio Schroeder".
triodecr Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Both the Schroeder and the Tone Pros are slightly thinner at the stud area than the Wilki. With the stock studs (on my '03 Special K Jr. anyway) they will both rotate towards the neck slightly with string pressure. I went with the TP because I found a new one with studs for ~$90 on ebay. I *think* I heard a slight lessening of low mids and slight emphasis of high mids when switching to the TP.
burningyen Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I liked the TonePros a lot. Interestingly, Terry McInturff prefers the Gotoh with the 2 movable saddles. He says he's had rattle issues with the TonePros and the Pigtail, and he likes the tone of the Gotoh better. Go figure.
stonge Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I have a Pigtail wraparound (non-intonated) with TonePros studs on my Korina Junior. The guitar is a lot louder acoustically than stock, and I think that is primarily due to having the bridge clamped down firmly with the locking studs transferring the string vibrations to the body better. You know how when you're listening to the stereo at a lower volume, and you kick in the 'loudness' button and all the bass and mids come back in? That's kinda what the Pigtail/TonePros does on that guitar. used the KJ with an old PRS halfstack at band practice this week. It didn't suck.
