That sounds like a favor to me. I'm not the trusting sort...I just got this email today (seriously!) from a long-time friend, who seems to have had their email hacked or hijacked. Interesting in how MY name is nowhere on the message: "Hi, I hope my email gets to you on time,sorry I did not inform you about our trip.We made a quick trip to Madrid Spain and unfortunately attacked and mugged on our way to the hotel,everything we got were taken from us at gun point,leaving us stranded now and my return flight leaves anytime from now but we`re having problems settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager won't let us leave until we settle the bills. Been to the police and embassy but they`re not helping issues and am freaked out at the moment and need help." Funny, I thought that today was Halloween, not April Fool's Day.
django49 Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 WAY too many cases of email getting hijacked to try out fraudulent acts......And WAY too many, especially seniors, that fall for the "plea from their granddaughter" who is ill and stranded overseas and in imminent danger if they do not wire funds immediately. I am sure there are people that REALLY do get into something bad, but......
Turdus Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I'll second Western Union. If nobody in the States is buying, then I'd do overseas if I wanted to dump the item that bad. Use Western Union. Get cash in had, then ship.
Mindseyes Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 I have sold a few things to people overseas and have never had a problem with it, granted they were all respected forum members.......as for selling to someone overseas, if they want to pony up my asking price and pay for shipping hell yea im gonna sell to them........I have found that the people from overseas dont try to haggle the price down as much as my fellow American's do.Bank wire transfer, ship after it clears<-----Check!!!Thanks guys!!!

I played in an expat band in Shanghai, and the local musicians were never endingly fascinated by my guitars, and amp. A lot of high end, foreign musical gear is unavailable to them, hence the the reason the guy wants to buy your amp; he's probably sh#ting himself that he'll send you three months wages, and you won't ship the head. I'd go with Western Union. What is the relevance of "pounding sand " ? Jaberwock

BadgerDave Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 The advantage of Western Union is that you can pick up the payment in cash at any WU location (most big chain drugstores have them) without providing any information other than ID. They have no way to access your bank accounts if the payment is fraudulent. This isn't necessarily true if you have a wire transfer paid through a bank at which you have an account.Western Union is the absolute best way to receive payments and one of the worst ways to send them -for the same reason. Neither the sender nor the payment processor has any recourse against the recipient of the payment if something goes wrong.
