Nice to find that when you'd forgotten about it.

The top and colouring look similar to my 78, I would call it a dark sunburst.

The off centre strap button is normal and the switch tip is original (I think) as it looks like the long type which are hard to find now.

Hamer seem to have been pretty mix and match with regard to switch tips and knobs, seems to depend on what was around on the day they were assembled. No Two seem identical to me. This could also be due to their age and many parts having been changed by previous owners.

Not sure about the wood, others here will know more.

The Bulls Eye Grovers will be of interest to the "When did Hamer use B.E. Grovers" debate raging elsewhere.

Yeah, I guess that quite many of these guitars have a lot of changed parts. Everything on this one have a "original feeling" it you know how I mean. There are some minor bleeding from the red color in the sunburst to the neck pickup ring, I think that looks really cool, just like a vintage Gibson.

So there are a debate about the tuners, could you show me a link? I'd be interested to read about it. Last night I tried to tighten some of the screws of the tuners but they still doesn't feel right. I'm not sure what type of oil to use or what to do to make them smoother and more precise, if it's possible.

Today Johan sent me a photo of the guitar. The mahogany is prepared with grain filler and he have sprayed the first coats of nitro. I think this will be really cool, I can't wait to see the finished guitar.

Thanks! I agree, they do look really great, both of them. I have really high expectations on this one, I think it's going to be a really great guitar once assembled.

Hey Magnus and welcome to the forum. The guitar/s look great. As Disturber mentioned, we are some Swedish die hard Hamer nuts hanging around. A Hamer "Tone Party" should be possible to arrange sometime during spring/summer me thinks.

I am ALL IN. I have a rehersal place in central Stockholm, south side. Tokyo Tapes has been there once. I think we could have it there, it's a pretty big place.

Any non Swedes that want to fly in for the occasion will be treated with free java and doughnuts  (seriously, you are very welcome as well).

I'd love to meet you guys and see your guitars, it's just to bad I live so far up north but I'm sure I could fly down to Stockholm if the timing is right.

I just got a mail from Johan, the headstock is done with the logo and everything, now it's just a few layers of nitro to shoot and a couple of weeks of curing, than it's time for final buffing. Ah, the wait is killing me!!! No, seriously, it's so fun knowing that the guitar is on it's way to me.

So I got this photo from Johan G today. He's shipping the guitar tomorrow. Guess if I'm anxious to get it back, we have a gig next week and the plan is that I'll have it assembled until then.

It's looking really good, the repair is almost invisible, I can't wait to see the rest.

Not much interest for a Hamer project guitar around here?

Anyway, here are some photos of the guitar. I received it today and it looks amazing. Johan is a true artist. I'm just blown away by his work.

The repair. I'd say it's invisible. Johan used tinted grain filler and some brown/cherry in the clear nitro and it really mask the repair well.

Headstock and logo. Johan shot the nitro quite thin, the headstock show some grain, just like the original did.

It's quite hard to capture the color, here are two photos of the back, one that looks more red and one that looks more brown.

I'd say that it's something in between in real life.

So, now it's just to fire up the solder station and assemble the guitar.

Looking really good. Very nice refin, well worth the effort.

On a separate note, do you work in a speed shop, or just have a bunch of performance parts hanging around in your garage?

Nice. Post a pic of the front as well. Congrats to a new born friend!

G Man,

that's actually where I eat lunch everyday. It's a guy who run a speed shop and he's biggest interest in life is food, so me and a couple of friends all eat lunch there, everyday. To qualify to the lunch club you must be devoted to classic US cars and guitars. I think the total amount of old Hamers in the club are 5 at the moment. The other have a bunch of cool classic cars, I have just my Mini Cooper......

Disturber, I think you know of some of the members in the lunch club:)

anyway, I'll assemble it tonight and shoot some new photos of the complete guitar. This is actually the first time I own a guitar with a flawless finish, I'm almost afraid to touch it.

Feynman,

it was a back only refin so the top is untouched, there are some photos of the top in the beginning of the thread.

Thanks, that means much coming from you. I've seen some of your work and it's just amazing. Now, in all honestly , it's all Johan Gustavsson's work. He's nothing but a great artist and a really nice guy.

Anyway, I just assembled the guitar, no wiring or setup yet. I just wanted to take a look how my old guitar would look and well, I'm so happy right now that I can't stand still. I carry the guitar all around the house, stopping for all mirrors and just stare.

Here a some quick photos of it.

That's gorgeous.

But I must know... How did you get JG to stop production on his $15,000 guitars to work on your Hamer?
