Suck it and see, in the old old days, the manufacturers didn't make a distinction between where the pickups were going. (apart from teles i spose)The first ref I remember to a specific bridge spec pickup I think was for some kind of early strat which had a hot wound bridge unit, was that in the very early 80s?

I put a neck Phat Cat in the bridge of something 'just to try it' and it wasn't good. More like really awful, actually.

Sometimes there are happy accidents though, so don't rule anything out.

What kind of results? won't know till you just do it.

there are no rules.

Guidelines were made, conjured up for the timid.

I had success with a '59 neck in the bridge.. nice snap and great vintage feel.

Wouldn't surprise me if it was really similar to the bridge if not identical - ala 1959..

I tried it with a Pearly Gates and it was over the top - not completely horrible, but it had too much push and you could kind of tell it didn't belong.

I did the opposite.....a Dimarzio Fred bridge pickup in the neck postion in an old Ibanez rg570 years ago, loved the sound of it. Trust your ears, not your eyes.

Neck pickups are typically lower powered since they pick up more string vibratation in their location compared to the bridge so there's balance. But like others have said try it and see.

I put a bridge Pearly Gates backwards in the neck of....something...., wired just the coil on the side nearest the bridge, and it was the best sounding neck pickup I've ever recorded. I really need to do that to my LP.........

Ace Frehley used Super Distortions in all three spots on his Les Pauls. Of course, only the bridge pickup was actually hooked up.....

Try it - you may have to back it down a bit from the strings to balance with a presumably at least as hot bridge pickup Is 8.1 the resistance? It may be fine, if that's the case. Any four wire bridge pickup would likely work in the neck position. With the coils in parallel, it would be have less girth. I've used bridge JBjr pickups and lil59 that way in basswood shredders, too.

With a Super Distortion, playing around with the height of the pole pieces is another way to tweak the EQ.

For example, raise the screws on one coil, and back down the ones in the other.

Thanks for the info, just got the guitar, the one off Hamer Bird, and look forward to using/exploring the, as originally specked, duncan 59. It's ROCKING right now, so i would only try the double dee after FULLY grasping the virtues of the original pup, on several amps. It's way happnin right away, so it could be awhile before/or if at all ,i experiment. thanks, s

isn't the pole piece spacing slightly different on neck vs bridge with some makers? That could cause differences in tone.

Now then! I bought a Cent from here a few years ago. It had stock SC's in the middle/neck & an added Quadrail HB in the bridge. None of the previous owners know anything about the bridge humbucker. I recently found it to be an unbranded (as far as I know) neck quadrail with a resistance of 8.3k. My Centaura is the best sounding guitar I own (or have owned & I've owned a few).

I even bought an SD Dimebucker to replace it with before I discovered this info. The Dimebucker may find itself on ebay. Maybe just a lucky one there but I'm well happy with the Cent as it is.
