Armitage
I don't know if they're the same size, but Hamer's are real Mother of Pearl, Gibson's are plastic.
murkat
Yes and no....material...Hamer ~ pearloidGibson~ plasticThe "shape" of...Gibson USA (the plant), for the most part, the inlays are rounded. No points.GCS, the reissues, Historics, the inlays have sharp points. But not all models... The side bevels are a little more rounded, curved. The Hamer (later) inlay are very close to a vintage cut Gibson inlay as far as "shape"..

seeker
Hamer USA are Pearloid and not MoP? Perloid is just a fancier plastic.
cmatthes
I've got a set of Hamer inlays - 0.060" MOP.
Armitage
Yes and no....material...Hamer ~ pearloidGibson~ plasticAre you sure? I always thought they were real MOP. They used to advertise "Mother-of-Pearl crown inlays" (which I guess could still mean plastic...) and now say "Genuine Shell Victory Inlays" for the Victory ones now. Andrew
Real Mother-of Pearl, nacre, shell, whatever you want to call it on Hamers.Try rubbing a fingernail on it. The nail will be sanded down without a mark on the pearl because mollusc shell is hard and mineral.Plastic or pearloid (a type of cellulose nitrate, so not an oil based plastic) will not abrade your nail.Edited to add that Gibson probably use shell on higher end guitars as it isn't expensive, just harder to work. Question

Sort of a random question but...
Are Hamer crowns the same shape and size as Gibson LP standard inlays?
Or, is this a more complicated question as in "no LP inlays are the same as each other and thus not the same as Hamer crowns"
So, maybe in a general sense, how similar are Hamer crowns and LP standard inlays.
