And the pride of Greensboro, NC.

I think this is, hands down, one of the greatest Hamers I've ever seen. Makes me even more sad they are winding down production and I'll never get the chance to order something half as awesome.

Congrats to you, Diablo. And kudos to Jackass and the other guys in the shop. You are heroes in my eyes and can only hope to be able to make a guitar that even matches half the quality (hey, I'm in CT. Looking for any apprentices??? :))

Wow. Thanks Devrock. I'll be honest with all, I was wishing I had done a few things differently on the order. I am thrilled with my decisions re: colors and design as well as options selected but I'd have tweeked it a bit more if not for the aversion to overstepping boundaries. In the end, I am happy with what I ended up with. An amazing ax and a testimony, however bittersweet, to the greatness that was, for the moment, is Hamer guitars.

Oh spill it. what would you have done different?

Please, do tell.

I am very curious natured fellow :)

ok, so what exactly does a Newman No.60 Jointer do? I found a picture, and even description, but I still am clueless.

Unfinished neck (or perhaps un-painted) with a clear satin finish.

Toggle switch moved closer to volume knob

Rosewood board

Alder body

Reversed boomers, just to be different.

Take 0000 steel wool and rub it all over the neck in circular motion. I'm a quick toggle flipper also, so I agree. I don't even use the middle position. Tumbling booms are too distracting, especially after a few. Right Newman 60? Rosewood wouldn't go with the look of the guitar. Your like me, after I have something, I wonder what it would be like with something else.

Totally agree - Rosewood wouldn't work with that one. I like it just the way you ordered it.

Now if it was a DOUBLE Cali...

Even though ANY green Hamer usually goes to the top of my list...THIS one is AMAZING! Congrats.

Glad to see some of the best stuff ever still coming out, despite the situation in-house.

We can only hope someone starts making a $99 Guild copy that is better than the real thing, so FMIC puts Hamer back on active duty.

It makes the boards flat. Simply running a board through a planer, flipping it, and running the other side through will give you a smooth finish on both sides- but it is not necessarily flat. You can't create a flat surface unless you have a flat surface to begin with. The Newman makes things flat. Once you have one flat side, then the boards go to the planer to create a flat side that is parallel to the side that passed over the Newman. From there you can plane, flip the board, and then plane the other side of the board until you reach desired thickness. An important step that gets skipped in a lot of places. Actually, the Hamer shop is full of vintage woodworking machines. The old stuff is 1000 times better than the stuff built today. No plastic pieces on that stuff ANYWHERE!

It's built like a Sherman tank. It has VERY sharp blades spinning in close proximity to the operator. The thing would send your hand up the dust collector before you knew what the F just happened.

Just about every Hamer board passed over that thing. Good screen name for Dave since just about every Hamer built in about the last 25 years passed through him at some point.

Isn't that fucking priceless. Old school machines and processes always work fucking awesome. G***d has $5,392,742.67 worth of cnc and tooling, plus fucking stupid new wave processes and there shit is fucked up all over the place. Someone shoot me. Let me have my Peanut Butter Ben + Jerry's first.
