When I tell people how great Fleetwood Mac was, they think of Stevie Nicks. They're the same people that think Black Magic Woman is a Santana song. I guess they're right. But not in my house.

Kwap.

As it happens, we are doing a little medley of tunes that Santana covered tomorrow (Black Magic Woman, She's Not There) as part of the Educational Outreach section of the show, teaching the dumb masses a little something about music history. We bookended those two with the Doors' "Soul Kitchen" for no particular reason.

Thanks very much for posting. Hadn't seen that before. I've gotten in Peter Green in only the last few years, but I can see why he's so highly praised: his fragile genius comes through in each note he played.

LOVE early Fleetwood Mac! not just the great guitar interplay but for the distinctive rhythm section that continued on through the entire history of the band. Very hard for a band to define a unique rhythm section identity.

Here is a pic of the bass amp that was that early sound....John McVie's Orange Matamp OR200 and matching custom 2x15 cabs. They were sold off by the band in the 80s at its warehouse outside of Hollywood In a "Fleetwood Mac Garage Sale." (THAT would sound really odd, if it hadn't been Hollywood, no?) Twp CA Hamer Bass endorser pals actually picked up and shipped the cabs for me to make the deal happen when I found the gear. The rig sounded so good that they asked to take it to a studio to sample it.

It took a LOT of work to clean it up and get 20 years of road sponge off of it. The band sold them with the original FMac stenciled road cases...but the guy I got them from stored the cases in his parents' garage for years and his father tossed them out!!!!!!

I sold the rig off about 18 months ago to a collector who made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Amazingly, the cabs still have the original 15 Ohm Celestion G15C's in them.

I’ll have to check that video out, blocked here at work.

Love the set-up, anything Matamp is cool by me. Too bad you sold it but hey cash is king. Liked early Fleetwood Mac with Peter, then not so much during the Bob Welch era but definately not during the Stevie/Lindsey era. One of my favorite albums of all time is the Peter Green, End of the Game album on vinyl, played it for years thru the 70/80ss until I stopped listening to vinyl. and most new music around 1986. Love that album. Only saw Peter once when he made his comeback after years in the Loony bin or was it tending someone’s English garden? Don't remember.

My wife was working as a Data Warehousing contractor for BP worldwide and struck up a friendship with guy form England named Alan. He came over to work on a project when the BP headquarters was in Cleveland, Ohio. We used to go out and see some bands as Alan was around the English scene in the 60/70s and saw all of the greats. He liked mostly blues base bands, I think it was mid 90’s but could be wrong, Peter Green was in town playing at a small blues club with his band the Splinter group, Wilberts when it was off the flats. We went to see him and it was a small club with tables. We came in and Alan goes up to table right in the front that says reserved and sits down, Didn't know you could reserve a table there. I asked Alan how it got the table and he said Peter got it for us. I said you know Peter Green, Alan in his dry British wit says, "Oh yeah from back in my festival days" Alan was rather reserved so I knew to let it drop and go with it. He says now when Peter comes over do not offer to shake his hand, he doesn't shake hands. So I don't remember if it was before or after his set, but he comes over and say hi to use and Alan and he and Alan chat for a bit and off he goes. I do remember it was a great blues set, he seemed a little rusty but still he sounded killer.

I wonder if hi still playing out?

I think he plays out now and then.

I'd love to see a pic of Peter Green and that Miller Hamer that he played for a while, (perhaps still does I don't know).

That is a great documentary. I posted the same clip here a year ago:
