Diablo or MIrage or???

Question

OK, I am on a mission to secure a 2-hum guitar with a trem. I am one of those goofballs that likes to solo with the neck pickup on, and have convinced myself I NEED on of these machines in my stable. I really liked the cheap little MIJ Squier I had for a day (24 3/4 scale too!) but the truss rod was snapped and I returned it. My question is, for the ultimate warm, fat neck tone, should I maybe consider a set-neck with a shorter scale? A mahogany PRS maybe?

I have considered routing one of my Strats, but that seems like a PITA in the long run, plus that means I don't get to experience another new guitar!

How does the Mirage rank for this type of tone? I know we are dealing with a longer scale length, and every Mirage I have played seemed awfully bright, but they have all been the MIrage I's with the rails PU's. I am considering the Diablo as well. Any other suggestions? It needs to be at least H-H, middle pickup optional, locking or non-locking trem - I don't care as long as it stays in tune.

I dropped a Duncan Lil' 59 in my SS and got close, but I need a fuller "boom" to that neck position trip. Help me out experts!

I would have thought chaparral or centaura would have come in HH configuration. If you would consider non - hamer I do like the early Kramer pacers pre hockeystick headstock. They have 7.25 radius. And the market softened on them so you can find them for a relatively low price. The early necks were made by ESP before they started selling guitars to usa.

A big NO on the 7.25 radius, but thanks for the suggestion!

Ibanez shredders are out too due to the Wizard neck being unfriendly to my aging wrist. Maybe I need to roll my own Warmoth? I dunno.

Any input re: Mirage neck tones most appreciated. I dig Koa........

A Mirage II would be good for you (they sound better to me than the Mirage I's). Or, try out a PRS Something-or-other with 22 frets (like a DGT). And stick with 22 frets.

Here something on the cheap Yamaha SE1220 neck thru.

It has been totally rewired with Seymour Duncan PU's, APH-1n alnico II for the neck and a Pearly Gates in the bridge. all new CTS 500k pots/2 vol. & 2 tone, and all Sprague capacitors. It also includes a very nice Gator case.

Nathan already had one see this thread... http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/topic/61262-neck-through-guitars/

1) I do already have one

2) What the hell did he do with the knobs?

3) I'm not buying anymore guitars, except for if I find a Hamer USA P-90 Special with TOM bridge for around $500.

So does the Ibanez you just got have a wizard-thin neck? I would have thought that would be perfect.

Anyway, here's an AWESOME MIJ guitar:

I could bring my Koa Mirage II over for you to try...as long as you've got a cold one or two in the fridge and you promise not to drool on the koa... B)

Maybe?

Changing the plan with Murkat may solve my dilemma.

Maybe.

Played a 1985 Ibanez Destroyer with 3-hums but a TERRIBLE trem system. It sounded great, and I couldn't help but imagine what it would be like with a Floyd or a Kahler.

Maybe?

Sooooo, why not get a Chap or Centaura and just throw a SC sized humbucker in there? I did that with my first Chapparal to get the ncek HB vibe (SD Hot Rails)

Did just that with my SS Custom. Close, but not quite there......

Lil' '59 on board.

Now on page 2 and no one has brought up the Veatch/BCR solution:

+1 soloing with the neck pickup , also play rhythms with the bridge pickup cuts without drowning out the other guitar in a two gtr band

I own a Mirage II, PRS CE22 and Big Apple Strat. All would be excellent choices.

What would be truly spectacular would be your Big Apple Strat with the neck off my VHRRI Strat!

The latest Ibanez Wizard profile is quite a bit thicker than the vintage one. I played one of those Chinese fluorescent 25th anniversary models and was surprised at how much bigger it was. Probably still smaller than Hamer's modern contour, but much closer.

Holy smokes. I forgot about that one.

veatch - Do you still have that? I'm such a sucker for koa...

If that neck has the profile of a Louisville Slugger, then yes, that would be spectacular!

Thickness at first fret: 1"

Thickness at 12th fret: 1"

Similar to what Suhr calls, "Vintage Huge" - very, very "C."

The only Fender neck I've played that was larger was a G.E. Smith Tele, and I don't know if it was so much bigger as it was just a different shape (the teeny vintage frets and 7.25" radius killed that one for me, however).

I have toyed with the thought of buying a different body for experimentation (don't want to route the original VHRRI body), but so far I've done nothing.

I went bottom-feeder and am auditioning a 1986 Ibanez "Demon" custom-jobbie. Looks like a Roadstar with some wood removed and new paint. H-S-H with a pair of Duncans in the Hum holes and the original Edge trem (chrome). Nice sleek but round neck and MIJ fretwork and quality.

It arrived yesterday in -7f temps, but is thawed and on the table for some fresh strings.

What a shock, the electronics are boogered.............

Not gonna moan TOO much for a $99 initial investment. We'll see where we end up after some attention.
