hamerhead Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/msg/4366707938.htmlToo bad for the crappy pictures, but if that is what it says it is, $2000 is a dead steal. Wow.
cmatthes Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 That was an $8k guitar. I think it may be more scam bait.
ARM OF HAMER Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Thats pretty nuts......................a real beauty for sure and not far away from me.......................... I could have been a easy drive for me yesterday after the guitar show as I was so close. This one has all the bells and whistles................don't know what else you could ask for in a guitar. When you look at this guitar and see the materials and craftmanship and hrs. and hrs. of labor that went into making this instrument and then look at the guitars some of the other top guitar makers are putting out for thousands more it makes you want to cry. A truly incredible guitar!
ARM OF HAMER Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I could go have a look at it to verify..................... is the price really that far afloat? Heck those guitars Willicut has have been on Ebay it seems forever and few have been sold................buyer for everything at some point regarding that question but.......................This guitar?????????why would you sell something like this that cost that kind of coin for 6K less then you got it for..............providing thats what you paid...........was this guitar a "Custom" order or a "Limited Production" model Chris?
ARM OF HAMER Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 This guitars photos and description are right off the "Hamer Guitars" website have a look. http://www.hamerguitars.com/?fa=custompop1&keepThis=true&TB_iframe=true&height=480&width=980 Thoughts?
ksmjc1969 Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Beautiful I wish I had the cash ! I'd be all over it !
Caddie Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 That was an $8k guitar. I think it may be more scam bait.CM, what makes you think it could be scam bait? Please don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be disagreeable with you. Young grasshopper just trying to learn at the foot of the master.gonga gonga galoongacaddie

If you are close enough I'd check it out.
matchful Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I agree, has spam written all over it. There is a guy in Dallas doing the same thing and he keeps getting flagged off the board. He will post a 58 les Paul for $3000. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.....--the Continental
ARM OF HAMER Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I emailed the seller.....................see IF he lets me come and see it.
cmatthes Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 His description in the ad is vague, factually off, and links to a site that is not his.The price is WAY below what anybody who bought that guitar would have sold it for in my opinion. This was one that was featured on Jol's Factory Blog and in the "Designer Collection", as a top end instrument. If somebody legitimately owned and was selling this guitar, I'd expect to see current pics (at least ONE pic) and a description of what this guitar really is.Is it possible that this is a legit Craigslist ad? Sure. I'll believe it when there's something showing that the seller actually has it for sale.I've seen WAY too many of these scams, and there are several of the classic red flags right there.
pirateflynn Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 I used to write the date on a paper with a Sharpie and put it in frame with the guitar back in the days when I was selling a lot of high end gear. You could ask for something like that.
ARM OF HAMER Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 NO response back to any of my emails which would be surprising if the guitar was really available...................................I could just drive and go see it is that close. Looks like its too good to be true which would make sense given all that Chris has said about it.Unfortunate but then it was a long shot.................cool guitar and though its just not owned by this guy it is owned by someone..............who isn't selling it at 2K.
cmatthes Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 I have a pretty acute BS detector, and that ad set it off. Again, I'm not saying that the guy isn't legit, but I don't find the ad credible. Anybody who would have purchased that guitar would...or should know more about guitars to not call it a '56 Reissue. A first time player or newbie buyer isn't likely to buy a guitar that listed for over $8k when new (say all you want about Hamers and resale value), and if he/she DID buy that one, I can't see them selling that cheaply.

But, are people that bored that they make up fake ads to waste other peoples time? If it were a scam, wouldn't he at least answer the e-mails to try to get some loot? I'm afraid I don't understand the motivation with this unless it is another HFCer present of past getting a chuckle.
ARM OF HAMER Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 I have to agree with THORN ..............why bother and take the time to cook something like this up...............pointless of course unless there is some money to be made.................I personally have gotten the old Craigslist B.S response when selling a guitar................ Hi,I'm a very busy General with the U.S Army and I'm currently stationed in Alaska. I'm really very interested in purchasing your guitar but my busy schedule does not allow me the time to come and personally view, play and purchase your instrument. I could send my personal representative to your home along with a certified bank cashiers check for the full amount your asking for your guitar. Please respond quickly with your personal information so that we can make further arrangements.[LIKE ROBBERY PERHAPS?] I actually got a letter that was not dissimilar to this. Some people................crazy!
cmatthes Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 People do it all the time. This is nothing new either. Back in the 80s and 90s (yes, pre-internet), there were tons of fake classifieds for things like "old Gibson electric guitar, red and yellow fade and brown case. Very old, probably from the 1950s?" The listed number would sometimes be fake or inactive, or else the clever prankster would describe a holy grail in great detail and then let the salivating clueless buyer down by saying that somebody just walked out with the prize an hour previous, paying some pathetically low price ("two hunnert dollars! That's almost what my Pappy paid for that old thing new!"). I truly think people get some weird perverse pleasure out of yanking people's chains. Now with the magic of the internet, I see these things posted by people with zero posts on TGP and other places with some regularity, and watch as the insufferable fools trip over themselves to take it off their hands or offer their lame armchair opinions. If I had a dollar for every one of these BS posts, ads I've seen, I'd be able to buy a real '50s 'Burst.
hikarateboy Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 If it were real. I'm sure any number of us here in Minneapolis would be happy to check it out for you or facilitate a deal.
ARM OF HAMER Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Guess that guitar deal is flatter than a pancake on a bunnys head.
