DaveL Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 I'll buy cd's (like the sound) although not as much as before and also blue rays, but hell no aint payin retail (amazon used, pawnshops ebay) not when redbox is renting at 1.50.
Crimsontider Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 My father resorted to Napster back in the heyday because there were so many songs and albums that were not on the market anymore, and he was a Lawyer and retired a Federal District Judge. He probably has 10,000 songs downloaded from toots, miles, Dizzie, Sinatra, Bird, Coltrain, Evans, Brubeck and all the others. I bet he has just about every commercial jazz record made. He downloaded just about non stop from 2002-2007. He put them all on CD's originally and now has them on jump drives. He also converted his vinyl.I have them all if anyone ever wants a collection from a particular artists from that great period. I have a one CD that is a few hundred Bill Evans tunes that I am listening to right now.
Frisian Hamer Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Yes, a fossil here as well. No digital downloads or whatsoever for me, I want music carriers, either vinyl or cd. Most of the stuff I buy is second hand 80ties/nineties metal/hardrock. I'm still surprised to find great bands I did not know about every now and then.
specialk Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Music and movies, I want the physical copy.Books, it's all on the kindle these days. Except for reference manuals and picture books.
berussell Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Definitely buying CDs when I feel the music is a keeper. I believe there is a small subtle difference between "owning" the copy and downloading a "license" to play MP3. With the CD, I can give the damn thing to *anyone* to play. I own that copy. With the mp3, I believe many are licensed to me. So my estate gets nada if I get hit by that asteroid (or old age). Maybe a moot point since my son & wife don't listen to my 1,000's of CDs and 100's of LPs. But I like options. And then I can rip a copy of "my music" with no worries. Echoing earlier comments I was bummed that my latest car plays one CD at a time. Yeah I can stream from bluetooth, yada yada, but I can't put in 6 CD in and get the full punch and sonics like I used to.Will keep buying physical copies. - b
elduave Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Of note. Went to four stores today looking for the new Kix. No dice. New CD distribution is officially dead in my book.
Steve Haynie Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Music stores probably have to be very tight on orders. More than once a new release has been sold out on the release date by the time I got to the record store after work. What really sucks is when you are assured in advance there will be plenty of copies on hand.
Disturber Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Im a lazy bastard, I only buy books, CDs and vinyl over the internet. No hazzle and its delivered to the door.
