Little bit of pickup guidance... SC sized HB

Evening all,

I know it's a bit of a silly thing to ask, but I've kind of ended up with most of my guitars having bridge HB and SCs in the neck... And 24 frets...and some being bolt ons....

But I do miss a neck Humbucker for the generic mid gained soft nosed sound.

Given that the laws of physics apply, with scale and coverage of string length for an SC form factor, construction differences and all that...

Anyone have a spot of guidance on what I should be thinking for a suitable SC sized pickup to cover off neck HB kind of duties... Is it as easy as going for a lil 59 or the like, or just stopping being a ponce and using the neck SCs that are installed and rolling off a spot of treble...

I know I'm not going to get SG/LP neck pickup sounds from a normal Cali for example no matter what the installed pickup...

I think I'm looking for something that is in the spirit of that kind of sound.

Perhaps one of my SS1s might be the best candidate for this?

Advise and guidance gratefully received.

Cheers all,

Ben.

For what it is worth, my impression is that a stacked single coil is designed to retain a single coil sound, just noiseless. However, you can easily put a lil 59 or dual rails of all sorts of types and end up with a good HB sound.

I think.

my to go SC humbucker is an old school jackson J200R.

luv that pickup.

good luck finding one.

does series / parallel switching like a wet dream.

I would go with the SS1. Seymour is making just about anything you want now in a Stacked Single. I picked up an SD Little Humbucker for a project that hopefully will be done in 2014.

I like the idea of something completely different... The j200r looks interesting, and there are a couple on ebay currently.

I'm thinking of either the pink SS1 or the white one for this. The materials mix are probably most suitable for what I'm after :)

I have a pair of duncan (vintage ) stacks in my strat, great strat tones.

I suggest the J200R because of the versatility of.

from a great humbucker tone to a nice almost single coil, mini humbucker tone at a flik of a switch....

it is priceless in my old jackson fusion. It always shakes heads when other hear it. fwiw.

I sometimes get roundly criticized for this but: If you're a bit skint, or even if you're not, look into the rail-type pickups from Guitar Fetish.. They've a big variety of styles, outputs etc. I've got them in a number of guitars and have no complaints. And some extra coin in my pocket.

I'm in the same ballgame. Almost all my guitars are H-S (or H-S-S). It's only recently I got one with a neck HB(Cort NZS-1), or a neck SC (Tele). I've got the stock Trembucker neck SC in my flame Cali (which is my #1 guitar) and it does sound more like a SC than the Hot Rails neck I have in my Chapparal (where I wanted more of a Les Paul / HB tone).

I've also got a dual blade neck pup in my iridescent cali but the OBLs leave me unimpressed.

I've got GFS pickups in 3 guitars, they are great

I have 3 GFS pups waiting to go into 2 guitars if I can ever get the time again to finish working on them...if it ain't one thing it's another.

I recently put GFS' gnarliest blade single coil/HB into one of my recent sleeper acquisitions. It matches up nicely with the neck humbucker now, both level and tone wise. Now it's a Tele with a bit of the Schecter PT vibe.

I LOVE stacked single coils in the neck... don't really care for neck humbuckers in 25.5" scale.

The Lil' 59 is basically a humbucker sound in a single coil size, I wanted a stacked single coil sort of performance and was curious as to how the Lil '59 sounded and performed.

It performed and sounded exactly like a low output neck humbucker without the boomy bass. It's currently in the neck of my #1 HSS and I'm wanting to go back to stacked singles ASAP.

I just would rather have a neck strat than a neck humbucker... but in my Gibson scaled stuff, I like the neck humbucker performance and sound (just not in my Fender scale stuff).
