Kilroy is all about... Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 Here's a rather rare bird for sale: '81 SUNBURST; very clean, but for chipping around the sustainblock. otherwise, it looks great and plays better. Apparently, there are very few RED OPAQUES in the neighborhood, so that's why it is priced at a premium. it's all original and for sale: $1.65k paypal... serial knows this piece... kilroy posts... rgkilroy@dmv.state.nv.us rgkilroy@yahoo.com
serial Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Kids, this guitar is CLEAN and smoking. A good one that I hated to have to get rid of in the first place. I've only seen three red opaque ones. Nielsen has one, I had this one and one beater that I held on to that's equally as nice as this one.Kilroy is Aces to deal with too.

serial Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Is this one known to you guys?I'm aware of that one. That one, Kilroy's (formerly mine) and the one I still have are the only ones I know of other than Rick N's '79. There might be a small few out there, but I haven't seen them and they're not in the records that I have which are pretty complete for a good chunk of the Sunburst era.
srvwannab Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Can I just add as the current owner of the Serial / Kilroy Sunburst- It is one incredible guitar!
Disturber Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Here is one that was sold on this board perhaps six years ago or so. Seller had an ebay ID that I think was "guitardoctor" ? I can't remember his HFC nick, I don't think he posts here anymore? Anyone remember? He sold quite a few cool Hamer's around that time. I had serious gas for this one but didn't bite the bullet.

cmatthes Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Here are the twins before they were "separated":
serial Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Same guitar as the Kilroy one. I bought it in '01 or so. You can tell by the fingerboard streaks.
Bernard from Belgium Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Is this one known to you guys? http://cgi.ebay.com/Rare-1982-Usa-Hamer-Su...1QQcmdZViewItem 3rd time up if am not mistaken...lots of chips around the binding on the ebay one... not sure about checking.. but considerable finish damage overall. would give my eye teeth for a near perfect one.... one will surface some day Well, I bougth the guitar at what I think is a decent price. I was happy the seller (from Holland) agreed to join me at the border of Belgium to hand over the guitar the next day after the deal was made... Anyway, the guitar isn't as bad as you would think from the pictures. There are a few chips and dings, but from a little distance you don't see it anyway. The worst damage in my opinion is around the headstock. On the back of the headstock was a sticker when I bought it. I noticed several finish cracks around that area already but discovered only after removing the sticker that someone unsuccesfully tried to touch up an even more bad finish crack. So I must believe that a former owner tried to camouflage it. Fact is that the guitar was stored in a wrong case causing at times pressure on the headstock. After close examination I was relieved that the damage is only in the finish and not in the wood. The guitar plays absolutely fine and more important, stays in tune. I have performed with it already and didn't have to adjust the tuning during a 2 hour gig. Fantastic, isn't it. My conclusion: I'm very happy having bought the guitar. The color is even better in really than on the pic and it's a keeper for me! You can ad me in the list of ferrari red sunburst owners... Bernard
serial Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Mine's probably the most beaten up of the three (especially on the back), but I love it.

serial Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 I have a 81 sunburst too RED ,but has a little flame to it cool guitar plays great ..Yours is cherry transparent-a standard, but way cool finish-Just like James Honeyman-Scott's. The others in this thread are opaque Ferarri red, which wasn't very common at all.
