Fulltone - - OCD or PlimSoul?

Pieman

Question

Posted

Sold an OCD some time ago and thinking about another. I was using it with a Dr Z Carmen Ghia (sold that too).

Thinking about giving the OCD another try, but the PlimSoul seems a bit more versatile. Would run it through a Fender Deluxe using a strat or Talladega or TPro.

Thanks

Isn’t the PlimSoul more of a fuzztone? Are you looking to get a more 60s distortion tone? If so, that would be a great choice. I think the OCD is for more gainy, OD applications.

Get both! That would be a versatile pedalboard thru the Deluxe.

A lot of ODs/distortions will alter your amp's basic tone. The OCD (thanks Jay!) maintains the sound and feel of your Deluxe, while throwing on as much dirt as you dial in.

Get both.

From the Fulltone Web Site:

Speaking of OCD, people ask "What's the comparison?" Easy answer: OCD has an honest flat EQ, won't change your amp's tone. PlimSoul has a gorgeous enhanced Midrange and Lower midrange... excellent to transform a combo into a Marshall-like lead machine, not so necessary if you already have a Marshall-like amp. I use PlimSoul on any combo, I use my OCD on both combos and larger Marshall-style amps/cabinets.

I like the "both" recommendation from those in the know. I've never had the opportunity to try either, so do let us know how you wind up.

Ahh, the overdrive/distortion/fuzz hunt. I've seen many go broke trying to find the perfect one. And it seems like every month anothe boutique maker comes out with yet another one. I myself have a bunch sitting in boxes that I'm trying to decide what to do with. do I put together a guitar pedal board, or just sell them.

I would go on youtube, and listen to the tons of demos everyone has made. I have found youtube to be invaluable in helping me with pedal decisions.

I had the local Long's drop off a carton of overdrives and spent a weekend trying them out. I ended up keeping a ZVEX Super-Duper, Fulltone Plimsoul and an Empress MultiDrive... but I don't think I've plugged them in since... they're still sitting in my office. So I guess I'm not that helpful.

Yeah... I keep playing my mesa boogie DC-5, and then really don't feel any need to touch pedals.
