ptdesign Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 I bought this Eclipse off the bay. Asking was 1,049 shipped. I offered 750.00 shipped and got it. All fine and good. But it showed up with a odd screw in the side. (for mounting a wireless?) It almost appears stock as the finish puckers around it like a grommet. With no cracks /slpits. I don't think anyone could countersink a pan head screw into it now without spalling the finish. look like a factory upgrade? This picture from dealer shows it. I didn't catch it. No other pic or description of the screw in add.
cmatthes Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Great deals over the years there. I scored a 6 in line Blitz with a stop/ tunamatic, an '81 Special, a '91 Floyded Sunburst, and #0150, a black, bound and crowned Standard.Great guys.
ptdesign Posted July 27, 2015 Author Posted July 27, 2015 What this ol' thread? This is what ended up with. I had two straps that equaled the same length depending on which strap button was used. I think it was more shoulder fatiguing when on the offset button. Nice side effect: I could stand it up in front of my amp during breaks. Eclipse observations for the interested: Black is a 95' 7.12 Lbs The Trans red is a 96' 7.14 Lbs Larger logo on the black 95' Stock Duncans on the black 95' Dimarzio's on the red 96' Duncan 3N neck pup is fantastic. The DiMarzio neck pup not so much. Pretty dull. (They have updated their mini's since) The Dimarzio bridge pup is brighter / crisper than the Duncan 2B. Kinda raw, p-90 ish The Dimarzio is also unpotted and slightly micro-phonic. The Duncan 2B bridge pup sounds pretty dull at home. Sits in a mix well though. Smooth. No feedback. Still going to try the Duncan 3B The Trans red is much more resonant. I got turned onto the Eclipse by member Humfree. He has a black MIK that is really nice. The body is thinner than the USA by 3/16" The stock Kent Armstrong neck was pretty good. The Bridge a bit anemic.
Never2Late Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 My NOS Studio came with an extra screw - at the bottom horn-tip. it had a rubber washer and filled a hole was counter-sunk - guess someone couldn't decide if it was gonna be a 'righty' or 'lefty' and just started drilling. No biggie. Its called "customized versatility'.
SSII x 2 Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Screw-job or not, you got a great guitar there, for a decent price.Play that bad boy till the paint rubs off! Great score!
carfish7 Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 My SS Custom came with 3 Strap buttons stock. Go figure.
specialk Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Beautiful Eclipse. Maybe we can start a poll to recommend an accessory that could be mounted with that screw? I got nothing though. That's easy, Ben-Wah Balls. So is this a new pedal that cops Clapton's "woman" tone?
Jason01 Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 The hole with the raised paint was the original hole for the strap button. The paint is raised around it because of the countersink and the rubber washer that was on it. When they moved the strap lock they filled the hole with a screw that just happened to fit it exactly. That's why it looks goofy or purpose built.
crunchee Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Beautiful Eclipse. Maybe we can start a poll to recommend an accessory that could be mounted with that screw? I got nothing though. That's easy, Ben-Wah Balls. So is this a new pedal that cops Clapton's "woman" tone? I dunno, but this 'old' pedal (as in, made several years ago) supposedly does, or at least it has the moniker. I don't think they're being made anymore:
tbonesullivan Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I had an orange eclipse for a while, and it had... two strap button locations. NEITHER was on center. I would guess a previous owner had decided to move it, but it never really made sense to me.
