I need a bed, mattress actually.

I have been sleeping on a twin mattress on the floor for the better part of the last four years. We have a queen sized pempur-pedic style bed that is killing my wife. she gets hot and she wakes up with hip/lower back pain. we got the memory foam because she is smaller than I am and would roll to me during the night(I didn't see that as a problem) and she moves around a ton at night. so the mem-foam was a nice fix but it is really not working out anymore. Also, the design of mattresses is off-the-charts, lots of the same designs/materials from different companies and they all say they are THE ONE

how do you try out a bed, I looked at a queen that was 4.5K for the set, but how do I know that will give us what we need? that's a lot of investment. I sleep 4-6hrs a night right now, I am physically/mentally wasted and really bothered about making an expensive decision right now.

any tips?

suggestions?

snake oil aversions?

thanks,

bill

Go try a Sleep Number bed at one of the Sleep Number stores. The wife and I bought one when it was time to replace our 3 year old mattress that started killing my back after about 6 months of use. You can adjust it until it's comfortable for you and the wife can adjust her side separately. If it starts to bother you after a few days, just grab the remote and adjust again.

We got our king size C2 for ~$1600 by using a free shipping code and having it delivered to our house. I assembled it in about 1 hour. The stores charge ~$200 for delivery and assembly. They don't carry any stock in the stores IIRC, so you have to have it shipped or delivered to your house, no pickup allowed.

It's the best investment we've made in a bed.

Leesa. Under $900. 100 day return policy.

Our Beauty Rest was about 10 years old when we went shopping. Of about 30 (including the Sleep Number stuff), we found 2 that we both liked. The cheapest was $2200. Ouch. So instead, I found a 3" memory foam pad for about $300, threw it on top of the old Beauty Rest and used it for about 5 more years. It worked out OK. Until just a few weeks ago, actually. I can't remember where I heard about the Leesa, but the reviews were good. It sounded different, and with the return policy I figured we had nothing to lose.

It arrived in a relatively small box. There are no springs in it, and they suck the air out for shipping. But within an hour or so after breaking the seal it was a regular queen-size bed. When I first got on it, it felt like a rock. I mean super firm. I don't like super firm. This is gonna suck, I thought. But after laying there for a couple minutes, it got comfy. Real comfy. Tried my side. Good. Tried my stomach. Good again. Alrighty then, we'll give it a shot.

Well, to make a short story long, it's been about 3 or 4 weeks now and my neck stiffness and lower back pain have improved quite a bit. My wife thought it was a bit too firm yet, so we put the 3" memory foam pad under it (between the box spring and mattress), and that really did the trick. I haven't slept so well in a long time. And it seems to be really well made. No cheap-looking or -feeling POS. It's really well done. I guess we'll see how long it holds up.

Check out the Leesa. It's different, but it's really working for both of us. It's great!

Or Google it for more reviews. They're all pretty positive.

I have a shop that has the "black label" stuff 1 mile from my doorstep. They are nice.

Looks like the wife is thinking we need a split king adjustable frame.

Damn, right before the guitar show :(

The best thing we ever did was get a king size bed. Back then they just called it a pillowtop. We are due for another as the pillowtop isn't quite as pillowy as it once was. I flip flop all night every night and have constant nightmares. My wife sleeps in one position and never wakes up. The extra room keeps me away from her so she can sleep. But it was that pillow top that really helped me be more comfortable and less flip floppy. Ours is a Posturepedic. I don't consider it the Hamer of beds but it has served us well. I think it was around a grand when we got it 10 years ago at Rooms To Go.

Hamerhead was right. Beautyrest. Black label.

See if there are any mattress outlet stores in your area. There's a store chain in my area that can get in Black Labels for about half price.

I'm still sleeping on the double-sided pillow top BeatyRest King I bought in Jan. 1999 (though it's finally due for replacement). I got it at an outlet store for about 1/2 price.

I swear shopping for mattresses is harder than buying a car or household applicances. Mattress companies often sell the same basic mattress (except for some minor cosmetic differences) at different stores but under different names or model numbers which makes it very difficult to price compare.

I recently purchased an Essentia memory foam mattress. They're pricey but got really good reviews and I've been happy with it thus far. They sell primarily online, but have a few retail stores in major cities.

.

EXACTLY the point! No one can under sell us, because no one else has this model.
