What amp would go best with my SATF Korean Hamer guitar?

I recently bought a Used SATF-HB Hamer guitar made in Korea. This is my first electric! So, as a newbe to the world of electric guitars, I am lost where to start. I have been playing acoustic guitar for many years, and wanted to try something different.  So does it matter what style of music you want to play or the type of guitar? Do pedals enhance or compensate what the amp can't do?

Looking forward to some great conversations and learning along the way!

Fender Superchamp XD or X2......

Hey! That's my line.

Plus whatever Tom said. It's a good inexpensive way to jump in. The X2 has a lot of options, and if you dig into the computer side of it, it's pretty impressive. It also takes pedals very well. At 1/2 -3/4 volume it warms up nicely without making you deaf, and easily hangs with the 5-piece band. It'll handle country to hard rock with no problem. It probably won't do metal, but nobody listens to that anyways.

Hi hammerhead!

Thanks for the suggestion and I do like this amp, but it may not be loud enough. With my Taylor 816ce on my 60 watt Fishman or my 60 watt Acoustic amps, I was drowned out by the drums and horn section in our 11 piece band. I really like the Boss 100 2x12 amp. I can play both acoustic or electric guitar on it, and switch volume level presets for practice, small or large gigs!

Another to check out is the Yamaha THR100H Dual. It's a lightweight stereo 2-heads-in-1 deal that gets great reviews. Should be able to run with a horn section. Lotta options, too.

Hey, you should also check out models from "Line-6"

They sound nice too, and I am going to have to bring my guitar into Guitar Center and compare these against Boss in person. 👍

I have heard about these! They are so portable, almost hard to take seriously. But I know someone who has one, and he is willing to let me try it out. Thanks for mentioning it because others reading these posts may not have heard of them! Yamaha is a good brand.

That's one of the reasons I'm seriously looking - the small size. Couple that with good power and versatility, it gets very interesting. If you try one, let us know what you think. I'd be interested in your friend's opinion as well.

Good luck with your search and let us know what you find. It's always good to get a fresh take on gear, even if you are a noob. :P

And Yamaha now owns Line 6, so I'm sure there's some cross pollination in terms of their modeling technology.

Hi Songbard and welcome to the HFC. Not a lot of love for Peavey amps here but the Delta Blues 115 will cut through any mix without a problem. The classic 30 is said to be a great amplifier. I love my Delta Blues 115 but a beast to move. Peavey does make.modeling amps (vypers) that get good reviews. Best bet, do you research, they them out when possible (any amp you buy). Great choice for your first electric. Just be careful as Hamers are addicting and well worth the addiction. Good luck on your quest.

Will definitely keep you in the loop, and will share what I find out about the THR.

Thanks for the welcome! I grew up around bands that used Peavy and Marshall stacks, so I am familiar with them. Remember those Custom padded amps? Oh, I am dating myself. ☺️   I did a lot of research on this guitar and I figured if the Korean Hamer  sounds this good, I can't wait to try one made in USA. I already have three Taylor's, a Ferrington, and Ibanez, l see Craigslist in some of their futures....

I'll check out the Delta's  - thanks for the reply!

Seems you need to cover a wide range of tunes.  I'd go with something like a Line6 POD and a small tube amp like the Peavey Classic 30 or a Fender Blues Jr or a Fender  '68 Custom Princeton Reverb Reissue (aka PRRI,  fwiw this would be my first choice).  IIRC the Line6 has a headphone jack so you can play without interrupting The Good Wife.  Yet another suggestion, get a Line6 combo.  Less luggage.   Just my $0.02   Cheers!

The Delta Blues is a Classic 30 with the addition of temolo.  Otherwise the same circuit.  Highly recommended, although the Classic 30 is lots more luggable.

OH!  Before I forget... Pix of the Ferrington or you're outta here.  :D

Hi Caddie,

Definitely wide range! I also love world beat and folk. I think exploring new music keeps your mind open, too. I wish there was an amp that also let you sound like a violin, dulcimer, banjo or sitar! Combined with a combo amp, you would' need to carry much at all.  I did try a Line6 combo at practice yesterday. It had some great effects. There's something different from the Boss sound but I can't place it yet. Will have to spend a little more time with it.

Ok! I have been trying to get pictures up, but the size is too big. How do you decrease the size?

Just about any image editing software can do it.  I don't directly recall what the max is here, but I seem to recall 600 x 800 as being acceptable.

Just posted some links. Let me know if you can open them.

Just fine!  Thanks!  I had forgotten that Danny made these before whatever deal/arrangement he made with Kramer.

This one was made 4/20/1992.  I recently had it set up since I haven't played it in a while and thinking of selling... Would like to see how it sounds on a new amp!
