Dunlop Straplocks and Standard/Ultimate body shape

Funky Chicken

Question

If you were to use Dunlop Straplocks with either of the above (or any other instrument where the strap button mounts behind the heel), would it make sense to install the pin and hardware on the strap

itself backwards, i.e. with the pin coming out the face of the strap? Anybody doing this? Thx

I use Schaller straplocks rather than Dunlops but the answer is still the same. For any guitar with the strap button on the back side of the neck heel (Standards, Ultimates, SGs, etc.) I mount the strap portion of the lock "backwards" or coming out the front of the strap.

Yes, and yes.

Exactly this.  If you don’t, you’re putting extra torque and tension on the straplock with the twisted strap end.

Yep, Backwards. The strap is already in that position after coming over your shoulder, so best to keep it that way, or you'll have a big twist in the strap.
