NGD 08 Talladega Pro

I have this Talladega Pro incoming to make a matching pair with my regular Talladega. I believe my Hamer collection is complete, but I've been wrong before.

Really looking forward to it. My regular Tally came with some Fralin pickups that I've swapped back to the original Double D's. Here's both guitars for a bit of guitar porn.

Did you get the DDs from Duncan or find some used?  I priced a set from Duncan once and they were...pricey.  Probably not too pricey when compared to Fralin's though.

Well...those are my favorite Hamer models.   I think Hamer sure ended on a high point.  Enjoy your Tallys.

Picked up an original set of Double D''s from someone off the forum, they gave me a good deal on them. I had emailed Duncan about them and a contact for them Dennis Russell said he found a set they could sell me for $260.

They quoted me over $400 for a set.  It took a while to find someone who actually knew what they were.

I've had a few Hamers over the last 30 years. It started with a Californian with boomers that I never should have sold.

I've kept most of them but some were getway drugs to others.

I would rank mine like this: (Prior to trying the Tally Pro)

1. Hamer Talladega
2. DuoTone Custom
3. 25th Anniversary Artist
4. Hamer Special P90's
5. Californian
6. Studio Custom
7. TLE
8. Newport Pro (Just couldn't bond with it no matter what I tried).

1 and 2 are my favorites as well.

I thought Double Ds had pole pieces in a line, not three and three.  I will look tonight.

They do, that picture was taken before I swapped out those Fralin's for the Double D's. Here's a blurry pic of it with the original pickups now.

The pick-ups in the Talladega in the original post ate Fralins, probably P92’s.

That's exactly what they are: Fralin P92's.

I'll still have them if anyone is interested in them.

Congrats on the Talladega Pro. Hope you have many happy years with it.!

I really enjoy my Talladega, but have never had a chance to play a Pro. Please post more once you’ve spent some time with it. I’ll be interested to see what you think.

Life is good, and the twins are finally together. 😁

The Pro has a thicker body and the neck carve is more of a C shape than like the V on the standard Talladega.

my first impressions are that the Pro might get more use, but we shall see.

Are the scale lengths different? The pickups appear to be closer together on the Pro.

Also never noticed the different contour on the lower horns as they meet the neck.

At risk of THAT old argument re the Pro (shape, neck contour).......The Pro version came later and MAY have incorporated other influences. Nevertheless, the Tally Pro is a great guitar. Too bad there are so few of them. Congrats!

Here’s some straight on shots of them. The Pro has a thicker body.

body shapes and pickup positions seem pretty close.
