cmatthes Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 The seller “borrowed” the story about acquiring that guitar from the original seller, who is a longtime member here. 🤔
stonge Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 That's the Standard Custom I sold last month; I met up with Bill and delivered it in person. He's a good guy who had been looking for one a while now, but something came up recently that requires the "last in first out" approach. He was kind enough to message me and offer first dibs if I wanted it back, and also let me know that he was not selling it because he was unhappy with it. That was a really nice guitar, but I already have a four digit and a Shishkov Ultimate so that SC was just sitting in its' case for the last decade or so. That one deserves to be played.

Ed you should pass along to your friend to cross post it here.
cmatthes Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 That is a BEAUTY in person...actually looks better than the photos - the top moves.
stonge Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 just for reference: the second video really catches the movement of the flame
HamerCustomEr Posted September 1, 2020 Author Posted September 1, 2020 Oh, my! I'm in love! That flame movement is off the charts! That being said, I love my wife even more, and I bought three Hamers in recent months already.

Scarab85 Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 This guitar is killing me because the natural flame standard is one of my bucket list guitars. But not sure about the price. I believe this was listed at $3,800 before and now $300 more? Is this what the market is getting for these? What scares me is that with Gibsons and Fenders, in my lifetime, the prices will only increase. But with the "other brands" that may be better guitars in terms of playability aren't going to have the appeal that the general public has for the only brands they know. The collectors who put the Gibsons & Fenders in glass cases probably don't know who Hamer is. So, does the bubble burst sometime on Hamers etc? And they go back to $350 🙂. On the other hand, new this guitar new was probably $3,500 or so. Another thing that gets me is the gold hardware. Just not a fan. So then I have to "de-gold" it (saving the original hardware of course). Or I wait to find another one with chrome or nickel. Which may be a while. It's all part of the game of G.A.S. Fun stuff. Does anyone know if you can get chrome Schallers new that fit the Standard headstock? Not sure of the dims.
cmatthes Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 You can definitely get period correct Schallers.
Scarab85 Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 Thanks @cmatthes. Do you know if these are new from Schaller? If so, do you know the model? Or is this a search on the used market?

I had a Japanese George Benson GB10 where the pickups were looking more and more like they had gone on a long sea voyage. Anyway, I love your new verb, "de-gold", especially when spoken with a Caribbean accent. "De-gold is ugly, I don't want de-gold. Let somebody else have de-gold Hamer."

As is often said here at the HFC, and this includes "collectible" Gibsons and Fenders, "askin' ain't sellin'". As far as this Hamer goes, it reminds me of what the late Stan Jay (Mandolin Bros.) used to say: "GFAO", AKA "Go find another one."

cmatthes Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 GFAO, indeed! That is one of the more memorable Standards (for me, anyway) of the last 25 years.
Drew816 Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 Why did I re-open this post... Every time I look I have to see this guitar and I think "...hey, just two liquor hit jobs and I'd have this covered. It'll be fine, they didn't catch me on the last hit for the '92 Sunburst so..." Wonderful guitar, someone is going to be very happy.
