I was wondering what a a 1980 Sunburst lwithout the headstock repair and no binding and crowns would be worth today?  I haven't seen one for sale for a long while.  And yes we all know the majority of answers will be around $350.00 give or take.

Yeah, no they're not.  He's out of his tree.

I wouldn't use the seller as a resource, that's for sure.

No real idea for a 1980 but a 1984 Hamer "Sunburst" that was Red in finish color with a nice top that had crown inlays but had no neck binding sold here recently, I believe the seller was asking $2,300.00, no idea what it actually sold for. This was the guitar.iEyDeO9.jpg

I often wonder what happened to that sweet 1980 special that I bought years ago for $800. The m/o was lost in the mail. I actually got my money back a few months later but the seller wasn’t too happy about the wait and eventually sold it to someone else . That little beauty of a geetar is probably worth $2000 now.

Um...isn't that the definition of a Hamer Special?  Or is that supposed to be with crowns but no binding?  I was up too late last night, so maybe I'm just sleep deprived.  -_-

Go to sleep.

Sunbursts have body binding.

It looks a lot like this one, which is sitting in my closet a few feet away.  I bought this 1980 serial number guitar new in 1981, I believe.  Dots instead of crowns.  I wouldn't let it go for less than $3k, but then it's not for sale and won't be anytime soon.  I played it at a gathering at the 4321 recently, and it rips.

Edited to add:  Jeez, my baby is 40 years old.  😲 😳

Pete Flynn was one of the original Chicago Hamer dealers.  Maybe there's a retail mentality going on with pricing.  OTOH, crowned and bound sustain block Sunbursts are pretty thin on the ground.  The neck break doesn't bother me but whatever is going on with that binding creeps me out.
