So the worship team at church has a new member ….a guitarist who will learn bass….he needs a decent starter bass or a nice quality instrument.

Whatchagot to sell? He will borrow my Cruise Bass until we find a decent bass, but that is gonna spoil him right off.

Thanks in advance.

Guitar Center sells used $2500-$3000 hand made Carvins for about $600-$900 depending.

If you order from store free returns. No Shipping.

$699 for this beauty.

I know it not a Hamer but it's my second go to (1st bass I owned) and I love mine. It was $679 shipped if you order from the store.

Here are a couple pics.

LB75 Blueburst Quilted. So many tones in this configuration. Also mine was a RADAR SN 73137.

Plays awesome Sounds awesome.

Just a suggestion.

I love my MIK Chaparral SN 311XXX, three piece neck, 2 piece body, that I put passive OBLs, changed tuners and all electronics in it but I'm keeping it as it sounds thunderous!

NFS but an idea for inexpensive import Hamer Slammer Series. Just add good pickups, pots and tuners and you're set. Mine was $200 with case, $75 tuners, $20 bourns pots, $185 for OBL pickups.

Just trying to help.

Check your local Craigslist for a used Squier Pbass or jazz bass.

With 20 mins of setup and a set of strings they’re a great bargain and can be had easily for 100-150.

Just a thought....

In the Slammer series there was a bolt-on take on a B4S.  Short scale, 2 pickups.  For a converting guitarist or someone who does the occasional double, it might be just the ticket. Will it rock the church right off the foundation or cause the building to breathe?  Nope, not even.  But it has a Beatle bass-ish tone, kind of shaded toward the midrange, easy to get around on.  And should be find-able in great condition for $100-ish or less.

While you're shopping, some Ibanez to consider and keep an eye out for.  I'm not into Ibanez guitars so much, but I do like some of their basses: for regular 34" scale the Ibanez SR 800s are still a bargain, the 800s and 885s (5 string) were made in Japan.   The first one I bought was an sr885 from my local pawn shop, it looked terrible, but I noticed that it was made in Japan and it was only $90 so I took it home.  It turned out that it seemed to have dried Pepsi all over it, and it cleaned up great, - those have a sweepable mid control which I like a lot on those.  My bandleader at the time used it for some recording in his legit home studio, and said it sounded great.  I'd still be happy with a SR885, friends have talked me out of the 3 I've had, -  and I do like my Hamers better.  One of my 'keepers' is an RB924 (roadstar 2 deluxe), but those are harder to find these days.  I've had a couple of newer Ibanez made in Indonesia neck through models with the Bartolinis, the SRs and the BTB series, and I really have nothing bad to say about those. The BTBs in 35" scale are very cool (and you need the low D at church!), if I hadn't 'stepped back' from playing at church I'd still have a BTB675, - those are a whole lot of bass for the money, real Bartolinis too, If I had zero basses and was starting over with a reasonable budget, a neck through BTB would be #1 on my list.  I understand some of the newer SRs have Alembic pups, not sure about the BTBs.

As always, you all have been very helpful!

I have a Slammer B4S you can have for $100 plus actual shipping (bolt on neck so I can disassemble to make it inexpensive). Tom is right on, great bass for a guitarist switching over.

I spoke too soon- had no idea it was my daughter's bass (it wasn't, but now that I want to let it go it appears to have been appropriated).  Sorry. :(

Ugh…dude  bought some Squier P-bass copy. Local shop had a decent MIM Pbass and a couple mint G&L imports.
And to make it all worse, he is a terrible musician.

Sounds sad Mark. But try to look on the sunny side.

When you figure out what that sunny side is, please update this post.

Sunny side is the worship leader is a most excellent musician with  a fantastic ear. He will mentor said sad bassist and provide musical leadership. He believe he can teach him to be acceptable….one who can play basic bass lines.

A bass player who cannot play...

The guy will end up owning all the PA equipment, booking the shows, and he will be the one guy the band cannot kick out.  Seen it.  Been there.
