topekatj Posted March 3, 2024 Posted March 3, 2024 Ace’s pointier signature guitar. Maybe it would hang ok on a strap (not be neck heavy) with the 6# of Wonderbar on board. Paging @Dave Scepter https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/msg/d/san-francisco-washburn-af-40v-ace/7719443457.html

The weak point (or the first one that came up) was the behind-the-nut lock that was made of pot metal. The locking screws stripped the thread out within a year. Otherwise, it stayed in tune fairly well (certainly better than the Bigsby). Aesthetically and ergonomically it was like having a Ziggurat on the face of the guitar (they're pretty tall).
Steve Haynie Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 The signature has to be very early or from the last 20 years. Ace stopped signing guitars by the early 90's because he did not like people selling guitars he signed for an extra $1000 or so. By the 2000's he started charging big bucks to sign guitars. Today the cost of his signature on a guitar varies with the value of the guitar being signed.

Based on your post and the asking price for the guitar, I guess there should be 3 more signatures somewhere on that guitar!
Armitage Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 I've got one... it's actually pretty sweet. Great standing or sitting down. Ace says he hated it. It's nothing like a Les Paul. They didn't make many... Ace is in his 70s... the price will go insane one day... every time he coughs I get a hard on...

My bandmate bought a Washburn Vee with that thing on it. It never stayed in tune. He returned the guitar after a few months. Terrible, just terrible.

I did suffer string breakage regularly in the S bend between the two rollers.
