  1. It's not uncommon for threads to spin off on semi relevant tangents. SuperD's and JB's were mentioned by others and I was continuing that subset topic. I don't really need a video to remind me why I play Gravelins.
  2. Any argument on which pickup is superior needs to be couched in the disclaimer that it's all subjective. I have tried both, time and time again. While I've found a few JB's that were more palatable to my ear, the vast majority were not. SuperD's just never grabbed me. Full stop. It's kinda funny because I don't think of myself as being particularly discerning in my audio preferences; I'm not a tone chaser to the extent that I have seen on here and elsewhere. But I know what I like when I hear it.
  3. Hey, any word on when the flood gates of HFC creativity will be flung open?
  4. Seeing as this is in FS/WTB/PSA section... I have a bag of new 34 Jazz III's I won't be using. $24 shipped CONUS
  5. Yet another anomaly of my agreeing with you. The tips and edges do tend to deteriorate kinda fast. Maybe why I a buy a shit ton of them at a time. I also wait for sale events.
  6. The repercussions of switching from Small Pointed Lites to Small Pointed. At 1.5 mm, the small pointed lites were a PITA to maintain a decent grip on.
  7. I rarely ever lose picks anymore. At 2.75mm, these V-Picks small pointed's are more a challenge to keep a sharp point on 'em than to lose 'em.
  8. Josh is a freaking pickup genius in addition to being a genuinely great guy- knows so much about pickup building- nuances that blow my mind. Screws vs. hex vs. slugs, rough cast vs. polished, pole piece length, square vs rounded whatchamajig 😆, and of course, alnico vs ceramic. We were chatting recently about p'ups and he got a brainstorm in the midst of talking about modding pickups. Decided he was going to experiment with a certain shaped something or other and a certain type of screw pole piece and I should test it out. Just like that.
  9. Even I have a difficult time articulating/describing the genesis of this p'up despite chatting with Josh every so often. You're correct that Eddie used numerous p'ups and it was challenging to pin down the exact one he then may have modded or had modded. But I believe this closer to the '78 ( or a Custom Custom) than anything more current.
  10. I still dig April Wine. Check out this take on King Crimson- And then there's the 3 way jam in Roller that is as tasty as it gets, in my humble opinion.
  11. Josh is da man! A year or so ago, he brought to my attention a pickup he was winding for another customer & he thought might interest me: a Van Halen-esque wind somewhere in the neighborhood of Ed's p'up on Fair Warning / Diver Down. Dayumm. It rocked in my HEL Spitfire 1! Then he wound a slightly different one, still in EVH territory but with a slight tweak to the high end, and I put that in my HEL Spitfire 2. Boom!! Killer! So, I ordered one for the upcoming Star Spangled Star. Tone report will come as soon as I get it in hand. Was anticipating acquiring another guitar so I ordered yet one more of the tweaked EVH. That acquisition fell through BUT... ...as fate would have it, I'm going to be acquiring another Hamer and this newest Gravelin is going in that one!!! Stay tuned!
  12. Not anything close to a Chap expert but... I seem to recall Chaps initially were 24.75" scale and featured the top-mounted, Strat-style, angled jacks, 3 mini toggle switches and more steeply angled head stock. Around '88 they changed to 25.5" and side of body jack, 3 way blade switch, with the slightly less angled headstock (a la Cali) Not sure about the pickups. Kahlers were offered starting around '83 and were stopped in '86 though, they fulfilled custom orders w/ Kahlers until about '88. ETA, apologies for repeating most of what BillW already stated. D'oh! 🙄
  13. It seems the industry and consumers are pushing back a bit? If so, good. I hope Fender takes it on the chin. Fender facing backlash.
