  6. The brief explanation is that "pants" is short for "pantaloons," which were initially a style of trouser but, in America at least, became sort of a catch all even after pantaloons fell out of style. Trousers were for quite some time a separate kind of leg covering held together at the top by a belt or some buttons. Part of the function of a cod piece was to provide an additional layer between your junk and the world since there was often a gap where the two met. A trouser for each leg was a pair of trousers. This breeches (britches), drawers, pants, slacks, etc. all have this plural form due to this history.
  7. Plural character is determined by proportion: Pants are comprised 79.6% by the two legs (52.3% for 7" shorts). A Shirt is comprised only 17.3% by the two arms (25.4% in the case of a long-sleeved shirt). Thus, the majority of Pants are a pair, the majority of a shirt by a single item. Plural is established for the pants but not for the shirt.

  17. I remember those, the WRC "RITZ" Neptune guitar.
  18. Yep, the entire community of Paradise, CA, ceases to exist, thanks to our gas/elec utility, PG&E. They were responsible for two other major wildfires that year. Fuck them.
  19. He really did make some interesting guitars in the years after he sold the company to Grove Jackson. I still remember how gutted people were when his home burned in 2018, as it contained a lot of truly unique items, and also probably pretty much meant the end of his guitar building days. When you lose all of your stuff and equipment its hard to start from scratch in your 70s.
  20. Closest I've ever been to having a Charvel is one of these, Wayne-designed. Interesting guitars. Looks very much like this: Not sure how long he lasted there, or if it was just a contract gig, or what the real story was with them. He certainly had a profound effect on the guitar world. When I worked in a store here like 25 years ago, we had a 'Wayne' guitar that was covered in a shell material. I remember it being rather cool.
  21. I've reached an age where I am starting to plot in my head that at some point in the next couple of years, I need to start doing what you've been doing. 47 guitars (9 Hamers for the scorekeepers) and assorted amps/effects etc all crammed into a one-bedroom condo has been great fun for me, but nothing goes on forever. At least the condo is paid for and I don't 'have to' do anything until I want to.
