I emailed the seller. I think he really didn't know what he had.

It seems a buddy told him it was a 'Ted Nugent Signature Series' guitar. Being a Metallica nut, he figured it was true, since Hammett, Hetfield and Mustaine all have thier own sig series.

While he might have approached the sale the wrong way, I'd have to cut him some slack. He was at least decent enough to pull the auction.

I steered him this way. Maybe there'll be a Zebra Blitz up for sale here.

Ok Ok.. Forgive me on that one. Let me just say Thank you to Hamerhead. He got me the info I needed to end that auction.

Guitar was given to me recently to sell. Ive never owned or played a Hamer of any type. Being a Metallica freak the last 18 years of my life, I know James' guitars and a few Gibsons.

Any how, I couldnt find any info on this axe. Every Standard and Blitz I saw didnt have all the switches. He had mentioned it was a Ted sig series from early 80's. I asked him where the heck his Signature was. Im not a big Ted fan musically, but I know he was always into the animal hide, hunting thing.

Any who, he took it to a local GC and was told that it was probably an old Nugent Sig?!?!?

I made the auction, listed it and sure as heck within like 20 mins i had a few emails from nice folks telling me it was a Blitz model. They made a few in 1984 with all those option switches and the Floyd. When I got the last one, Hamerhead, i knew my buddy was shot out and ended the auction. Im a lot of things, but a fraud isnt one of them.

He then directed me here. My friend has since got his facts a little straighter and will try to sell it for less. I did relist it for him.

So yes..laugh away. I plead ignorance. I will say I really do like the way it plays out and feels. I also like that Mick Mars picture.

PS-- Anyone wanna buy a 1984 Hamer Blitz Zebra? Always cheaper to do things off of Ebay. Curse those outrageous fees!

Welcome. Nice to see you made it.

The Blitz is a great guitar and the Zebras are very cool.

You can learn a lot from the guys here. Maybe even pick up a nice Hamer along the way.

Hi Red. Welcome to the board.

Is this your listing?

eBay Zebra Blitz auction

If so, I'm afraid you still have a few issues. 3x3 headstocks on Blitz' are far more common and significantly less desirable than the 6 in line versions. Also, this is not Hamer factory wiring:

Looks like the extra switches are non-original. These comments are intended to be helpful, not trying to bust yer balls.

Well i see you relisted it at 1300$ this time... i guess no one told you you wont get close to 600 for since its a blitz... unless your lucky... you keep wasting your money on ebay fees doing this without informing yourself fo what you actually have... im not ridiculing you.. this time.. just tryin to inform you that your mistakin in your pricings..."custom" wiring or not... good luck to ya...

I, too, must agree that the current asking price is more than what the guitar will likely bring. Cut the price in half again, and you might get a few bites because of the condition. Not having the case means you have to take a little more of a loss. You could get a new case for one of the import models.

We watch eBay all the time. Even if we cannot bid we still watch eBay auctions. No one here is trying to steer you wrong. My experience has been that and auction with a low starting price will climb higher than an auction with a high starting price.

Ted Nugent had a zebra striped Paul Reed Smith for a while. That may have been a signature model, or at least a special finish for Ted Nugent. He has owned a Hamer with a custom paint job, too. The people at Guitar Center were wrong about any connection between Ted Nugent and Hamer. He owned a Hamer, he mentions Hamer in his instructional video, but he never had a Hamer signature model.

Zebra

Nice Zulu! I have one in B&W, with a banana headstock and love it.

I like the one in question in this thread because it's a B&W zebra and different than the Zulu finish. Wish I could afford it. *pout* It's FLOYDED! I worship at the altar of Floyd Rose.

That graphic was a regular/standard option on Blitz guitars, and the 3x3 headstock Blitz guitars are DEFINITELY NOT the more desirable of the two versions. I think the Floyd on that one is an aftermarket installation, but there is a slim chance that it was factory original. Floyds and the Sustainblock trems were standard fittings, and Kahlers could be ordered as an option. The wiring and mini switches are also 100% aftermarket, as Hamer's cavity work would bever have been that sloppy.

A fair price range to expect on that would be $400 or so on the low side (condition, alterations, no case) up to maybe $600 +/-. The Blitz is a fun guitar, but will not realistically sell for close to $1,000. Not any time soon anyway. Again, not a criticism of the ad, just the reality from somebody who has been buying/selling/trading HAMERs for well over 20 years.

On the b/w zebra Blitz, the Floyd is an early one but doesn't look original. Clues are the non-original backplate, the nut doesn't bolt through the neck and the Hamerlok tuners. Although none are definitive proof!

The laser pearl/midnight pearl zebra Blitz was another eBay.de accident - I bid on the opening day the starting price (which was low) fully expecting to be outbid and I wasn't.

Blitzes are great, especially the 3+3 ones, and they are still bargains!

In 1984, ALL Floyds should have had the 2 nut anchor bolts through the neck - good point Doc!

I appreciate all your feedback. Its not my guitar, though.

FYI, the 3 on a side peg head books for about $200-$300 more then a 6 on a side. Go figure. Book on a 1984 Blitz 3 peg is (hold on to your hats) $950.00

Remember, Ebay is worldwide. Ive already been offered over $800 for it but, no sale.

One man's trash is another man's treasure.

Im a hard rock guy..and I prefer ESP's (dont kick me out!) I know the Kahler gets a lot of flack from the Hamer guys, but the best Heavy metal guitar ive ever owned was my older ESP Hanneman signature w/ Kahler. I like floyds, dont get me wrong. My favorite, overall guitar is the Peavey EVH Wolfgang. Ive had a bunch of those and always love going back to it. I like the Floyd model better then the hard tails (ive had both). Ive had about 5 KH-3 ESP's and they sound killer, but i dont like the feel. Too much weight for my liking.

Red,

I don't know what "book" you're looking at, but Fjestad's Blue Book of Electric guitars lists a MINT 3x3 Blitz at $575 and a mint 6 inline Blitz at $675.

No case, added switches and wear put your friend's guitar in the VG catagory at best. That puts the "book" at $350.

That said, the various blue books are notoriously innacurate when it comes to Hamers, particularly the more unusual models. There are people on this board who will go to great lengths to help folks with questions. Many of us have been playing and collecting Hamers for nearly 30 years. We have authorized dealers, former Hamer employees, authors and editors of national guitar magazines participating in this forum. We have members in Europe, Japan and South America who contribute regularly. You can blow off the comments you received here if you want and I hope you get what you want for the guitar. However, if someone offered $800 for that guitar, you'd be wise to jump on it - that's roughly double the market value.

Sorry, but in the REAL world, the 3x3 Blitz has NEVER been worth more than the 6-in-line.

If you have a real world offer for $800  for a 3x3 Blitz that is hacked up and missing the original case, you would be a fool not to take it.

1982-1984 3 on a side peghead $900

1984-1990 6 on a side peghead $750

Im a fool. Its not my guitar.

With all respect..ive been playing and trading guitars for a few years. Certainly not a pro, but also im not an amateur. If i listened to every know-it-all on forums as far as pricing, i might as well give it up.

My specialty is ESP. The ESP forum people mock every auction ive made, saying im crazy. Ya know what, ive sold just about every guitar for a lot more then they'd pay. My $1900.00 Hanneman that they said was only worth $900-$1100. My $1600 DV8-R SE which they would only pay $800 for. Im not one to let other people determine my destiny. Thats why my handle is Red Scuderia and not Red Corvette.

This isnt a debate. Respectfully, to you its not worth over $600..and thats great. This guitar isnt for you. There is a lead guitarist in an 80's hairband out there in this world of over 4 billion people that will think its worth over $600, over $800, over $1500..

Yea...good luck with that.

The price guides are NO reference to me, anymore.

This board and Ebay are the only ones.

But if you'r lucky, you'll find an idiot.

Why are people so pessimistic when it comes to other people's things? Because its mine, its not worth but $350 (like thats reality). Im sure if you were selling it, youd be sitting here saying its worth a fortune because its so rare (and yours). I suppose the car you bought last year for $24,000 is still worth $24,000 in your mind and "Brand New", right?!

Im not pessimistic when i see people offering things that I feel are priced too high. Its none of my business and I move on. Why do you select few feel the need to degrade me ("Good Luck With That"). If I had a dollar for every forumite that told me, "good luck with that" id be a rich man.

Oh wait, I am a rich man!

If it makes you feel better and gets you thru the day, im glad I could be of some help to you. Im concerned as to what will get you thru tomorrow..

No one has said, "Wow. what an unusually rare piece you have there. I hope you have great luck selling it." I think Hamerhead mis-represented this forum.

I've gotten a lot of emails WorldWide from some decent people saying its a really nice instrument and they wish they had a few extra bucks to spend. Nice to see the decent side of humanity still exists, even in small quantities.

You amy not be around here long with that attitude.

You have been given good advice from people that KNOW what's up.

You refuse to take it.

Don't let the door hit yer ass on the way out.
