  1. Well then, allow me to now submit my order for a mahogany Standard done up in replica of the 4 digit on the cover of the Book, with the burst finish, poker chip toggle cover, bound, crowned but with a Floyd Rose, 24 frets, and reverse head stock. Mmmm.
  2. Goddammit, this is fueling a raging case of HGAS. How much would it cost to get the fellers in the shop to sneak one more custom order in?
  3. 3 way tie between my '11 Charvel CS Star, the '13 Custom Cali and my '92 Diablo.
  4. Hate to ask this but can you all take a few more views? And if you can pass it along to anyone you know who might appreciate this, that'd be swell!!!
  5. Thanks everyone! Brian's truly grateful for the post and stated that while they didn't give a view count, they did give updated status reports called the "hot list" and he's been at or near the top every time he's checked in. Keep 'em coming!
  6. Brian Larkin is/was my guitar teacher, sporadically, over the last 5 years. I'd take a half dozen or so lessons and then time constraints and life, in general, got in the way and I'd stop. Then, maybe a year later, I'd get the bug to improve, pick up where I left off and resume lessons. Brian's a hugely talented player and studied with Ron "BumbleFoot" Thal. As a solid to Brian, I'm posting this hoping you all will check out his short video of him shredding it up for some contest. Right now he just needs views, not votes. Thanks! http://www.toontrack.com/metalguitargod2013.asp#!/entry/623547
  7. Sweet mutha o Murgatroid! Hummina hummina hummina
  8. BCR Greg along with one other (Maybe Bm?) had said that a Scotch Brite pad (green, plastic scrubby pad) or 0000 steel wool would produce a satin-like finish. In a tactile sense, yes, but the aesthetics of it left a bit to be desired. It looks scratched up, not like a pro finish would. It's splitting hairs, I suppose, but ya want yer baby to look good... right?
  9. Id'n that what 0000 steel wool is for? You can always buff it back out to shiny if you go easy with the steel wool. Well, paint me peculiar, but I kinda prefer it when it doesn't look like a Scotch-brite pad or 4 ought steel wool just chewed it up. My Custom Shop Charvel came from the shop with a satin neck finish and it still looks factory new.
  10. Not sure, but if there's any likelihood of him wanting to pass on it, I'm calling dibs and you can make that satin, please. Really wishing the custom checked Cali had come with a satin neck.
  11. Figured it was only a matter of time before someone went there. /\ Surprised it took this long...
  12. Not to ride the cranky coat tails of my UK brother, as I've been sampling a bit of Mexico's solution to civilized behavior - tequila, triple sec and lime juice... BUT... I agree. Fucks sake! Gibson and Fender are re-releasing absolute shite and to what end? FMIC shit-cans Hamer, arguably the best of their line because of some botched business decisions in Hamer's past. Hamer may not have had the longevity of Strats, Lesters and what not, but they were better built in most cases and had a solid reputation. Rather than refurbish the brand, they shit can it in favor of putting out fucking Starcasters. and Coronados? Really? Bah. Those of us who managed to acquire Hamers during their brief but rich history are indeed lucky. The rest of the lemmings may continue over the cliff with their over-priced crap in hand.
  13. Two things come to mind here: Is this Fender's answer to try and stimulate a shrinking guitar buying market? Glad I missed this era of guitars.
  14. Orthrelm might have an opening for you.
  15. Thread derail (or sidebar, if you will) : Just wanted to give props to BlueRedWhite for being a good sport through all of this. Much of what is said (at least, from this end) is half-joking, cage rattling. It's actually quite fun to play the stereotype to the hilt. That being said, I am mindful of how my comments could be misconstrued as demeaning and/or sexist, and well, they are to a tiny degree. But credit to those who have worked to keep this board on the level and fair, and to those who contribute herein, knowing that everyone is entitled to opinions and some are compelled to share them in a humorous yet antagonistic manner. Derail over.
  16. If that was true, he'd already know what was likely to happen, even before his little girl's vid got posted. Here at the HFC, we take t*ts seriously and our guitar playing... well, not so much.
  17. As appealing and easy on the eyes as she is, I'd hate to bank on her as the savior for our beloved guitar. A lovely poster child but alas, not what I would need to pick up a guitar...
  18. Or maybe she found out that dad's been viewing it... an awful lot.
  19. Perfect! ETA- I laughed so hard my wife came in the room, at which point I had to explain what was so funny. That didn't go so well... <sigh>
  20. +1 Yup. I'm a dyed in the wool hard rocker but I definitely like this over her rendition of Highway to Hell...
  21. I'd chalk it up to one of several things: an irresistible desire to be seen, an unquenchable thirst for fame (in whatever form) and/or copious amounts of encouragement/ accolades (deserved, well-intentioned or otherwise) already. Never underestimate peoples desire to stroke their egos even if it would backfire. Should we apply that too to the 8 years old and 4 years old starting to play ANY instrument??? What happened to encouraging the playing??the interest taken, the hours of practice? the BALLS to make it public?? WTF!!!! edited to add: at 17..there is no ego formed yet. In any case, is called confidence building, and all those who remember their very first gig in public, may remember. And with so much bullying and suicide rates, people need more accolades today than ever...specially for picking up good habits like guitar playing. Go further, a 50-60 years old, that after so many years, finally can get up and play guitar: if he post something, is not ego, cause he just started, is confidence building. you think it could be fame thirst?? Middle-age guys that travel miles and miles, to be together and jam once a year...is it ego?? Is it an irresistible desire to be seen?? Thirst for fame???Why don't they stay home?? The world would be a WAY better place with more people being positive about others... I'm gonna have to disagree. Kids are VERY ego-centric even as early as 2 or 3 years old. Their entire existence is predicated on serving and satisfying their needs and desires. As for 17 year olds? Yeah, more tempered and perhaps restrained but still there, still clamoring to be acknowledged. Been teaching high school, middle school and running summer camps for 5 year olds thru 15 year olds for 20 + years so I have a bit of personal experience in this regard. My comments are not out of line with what likely drives many teens to post on YouTube and other social media sites. It's not meant to bash the young lady nor to disparage youths from trying out musical instruments or ANY artistic endeavor for that matter. (Did I mention that I've run a guitar club at school for the last 15 years? Or that I teach art to youths as my profession as well as a side job?) It's just a documented fact that teens tend to seek out acceptance for both their artistic endeavors and for themselves as individuals on sites like YouTube. In truth, it does tend to color my perception as to what really is motivating them.

  23. Honestly, it's easy to joke about because, as Dasein pointed out, there's nothing really new or remarkable about her performance. Pretty face, nice voice, adequate but IMO boring guitar work and a lovely rack. Meh. There are a gazillion hopefuls like her, clamoring to get their view counts up to a number that will yield some kind of financial or career fruit. To be blunt as spoon, re: performers- you gotta have more going for you than that to keep my attention.
  24. Was she playing a guitar and singing, too?
