  1. Funny, I was just thinking back to my younger daze when I would be playing both offerings of the Nativity in Black: A Tribute to Black Sabbath. That was very effective motivational music while going for my PBs/a new max at the gym. With the exception of a handful of tracks from Sabotage and RJD-era Sabs, not sure if the cuts from Ozzy-era Sabs would have helped much in the couple of times I benched 305 lbs. Like Ozzy himself, my days of achieving those levels of PBs/Max's are gone.
  2. Decided I needed a D-Tuna equipped shredder for them drop- D tunes, so I got me one. Found a nice '09 USA San Dimas in good shape w/ a flat-mounted OFR and haggled for an acceptable price. Personally, I'm a little put off that he didn't go for the deeper reduction due to it lacking a proper 24 frets and a reversed head stock. It just landed today. Needs a bit of a set up to go with a D-Tuna but was pleased to note the previous owner swapped out the stock Korean 1000 Floyd for a German OFR!!!
  3. Thanks, Brooks. Only the sibling Charvel snake DK24s remain. Kinda wish I had the other 2 back but if I step back and really think about it, they were sent packing for a reason. Looking forward to a tone report on the Ibby RG! Interesting use of a honeycomb mesh netting to create the illusion of snakeskin! Never have seen that before!
  4. Guilty as charged. It was just a curiosity. Of the 3 hard tails I do own, none really goes wildly out of tune but... there's a wee bit after some time playing and some vigorous bending. Am I off base in thinking that most tuning issues tend to originate at the nut (assuming that strings were properly stretched, and correctly threaded onto the tuners) ? I can't see how rollers are going to mitigate or eliminate issues that stem from the string passing through the nut.
  5. Gotta love some snakeskinz!! Congrats! Now bring back Ded Mullet!!!!
  6. As someone who doesn't play fixed bridge guitars much, I'm wondering if this is useful design? I was always under the impression that most tuning issues originated at the nut and/or the tuners. The zinc alloy base is a a bit of a red flag. Softer metal if memory serves. Thoughts? https://www.guyker.com/products/guyker-gm008-adjustable-tune-o-matic-locking-bridge-zinc-alloy-body-with-stainless-steel-components-and-larger-screws-for-electric-guitars?_pos=1&_sid=3ef6fe1f6&_ss=r&utm_medium=paid&utm_id=120214564447840169&utm_content=120233758178110169&utm_term=120230242725780169&utm_campaign=120214564447840169&fbclid=IwY2xjawM3gDBleHRuA2FlbQEwAGFkaWQBqyf3VWZBCQEeal89Z2QpjuYHjb2hlt5gtqTefVfhe3Zf4i275aRdhxfkF5rgimK1eB8g9CI_aem_JfwlkIYYBPMsCLetnNGJtQ&campaign_id=120214564447840169&ad_id=120233758178110169
  7. Just came across this company a few days ago and have been looking into them. Made in Maryland but headquarters in NJ. Interesting business model; doing only limited run (100 units) batches with different themes. VERY transparent about what and where the components/hardware comes from. Looks like they're using the USA made Floyds. Seriously considering one (they're all sold out of this current run) but would prefer to get one w/ more of my specs. I'd also like to play one before plunking down $3500. Truly custom orders are not yet available. Build times are around 90-120 days. The only question remains as to how good their pickups are. Can always swap them out but curiosity is still strong. https://www.badlandsguitarcompany.com/
  8. Had the pleasure of catching these guys in a modest-sized club years ago. Love this take on "Fairies!"
  9. I heard just enough back in the late 90's/early 2000's to know I wasn't interested. I liked Jim Root's stuff with Stone Sour and Mick Thompson has decent taste in guitars but outside of that? Meh.
  10. Interesting. I got this from Matt re: my double neck Cali. 🤨🤔 Hey Jim, Very cool guitar! Unfortunately, I would have to pass on this one just because of its rarity. I don't know enough about them to accurately price it, there are not enough sold listings from the past to draw a conclusion on its value. I think you'll have better luck in a local market, or perhaps a consignment at a nearby guitar store. Thanks for reaching out! -Matt
  11. Agree! Slayer has that same limited scope of appeal with me.
  12. Better than... what? I shudder to think of what they started out as.
  13. I was just on there but didn't find it to be very convenient - every guitar I input had no previous listing & thus, no record. Which means you have to email them with your make/model and they will appraise it and give you a quote via email? Interesting approach. Not very effective at the moment.
  14. In the spirit of mash ups: Just came across this mash up-
  15. Oops. Obviously missed that!
  16. Recently, I came across 2 new options in the ongoing struggle to sell gear without getting bent over on fees (ahem- Reverb, eBay) Haven't had luck on either but I'm attributing that to the sizable price tags of the high end instruments I'm trying to move and the shitty state of the economy at the moment. Let's be honest, it's a bad time to be selling high end gear unless you're giving it away. My experience with https://www.stringtree.co/ was so-so; a mix of pretentious auctions and standard listings. They do make an effort to present your items in a more dignified manner. They edit your photos (cropping, removing background and adding other Photoshop accents like drop shadows, etc.) and add a bit of flowery BS verbiage in the descriptions that would make the copywriters at Sweetwater and Guitar Center envious. In the end, the guitar I had up was asking too much and it didn't command anywhere near the minimum for bids so it's relegated to just sitting in the site. Someone would need to go on there specifically looking for it in order for it to move. Meh. https://www.resyn.com/ is pretty straight forward. Same essential approach as Reverb in terms of listing and it has an offer option (like Reverb) but it seems little less costly with BS fees. They market themselves as, "A trusted space to buy, sell, and trade gear with no commission fees." I now have a few axes up there. A follow up report will be posted if they sell.
  17. I'm also indifferent towards PRS. I briefly owned a Torero and have played a bunch of others- Custom 24s, the Santana model, a few SE offerings. I haven't really felt the compulsion to get any others. My aversion to owning artist signature guitars is in no danger of changing with this model. Definitely a different and interesting offering from PRS but not blowing my skirt up.
  18. Just having a little fun rehashing the tired and true Diablo/HFC joke re: must-haves. I need another new ax (even one as purty as that) like I need a cavity search by a large-handed, sadistic TSA employee. 😬
  19. Reverse head stock- check. Floyd Rose- check. Super badass poker chip toggle skirt- check. 24 frets- uh, 24 frets? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone? Phew- that is one spec shy of me being REALLY insanely envious. Congrats Stike! Man, you don't f- around when you do a NGD.
  20. Cent needs a reversed head stock and the solo needs some ill-suited, over-the-top whammy bar histrionics! Nice work, mate!!
  21. I've been racking my brains to come up with a contribution to this thread. I can't think of a single guitar that I can point to as one I'm really regretting letting go of. Sure, there are some I wouldn't mind having back for two reasons: nostalgia being the most potent of those motivations. The other is bit more involved. In short, I'd like to have a number of them back to see how I get on with them now. I think we all grow as players over the decades and I like to delude myself into believing that I've evolved to a degree as a player as well. My inability to truly bond with a guitar back in the day could have been rooted in my then less-developed technique and theory. I'd like to test that theory.
