  1. That headstock repair was done by Jonathan of GVCG? The refin looks killer, but I'm not convinced about the rest.
  2. B'GOSH!! Always after me Lucky Charms!!
  3. Jim, the seller posted an auction with a description that was so far from the truth, one could not find it with a NASA satellite and a pack of bloodhounds, but if you're happy with your purchase, I'm certainly not going to lose any sleep over it. Enjoy your Standard!
  4. That was a '91 that I custom-ordered in 1990. I bought a '95 Standard in '59 Burst new from a dealer (Dave's Guitars) in '95 for under $1,300. Believe it or not, I have sold two '95 Standards in '59 Burst - one for $1,200 and one for slightly more. I don't think that even the '59 Burst mid-90s Standards are $1,000 guitars any more - the price on the '90s Hamers are definitely inching up. I'm not surprised to see one go for $1,500 these days, but it is more than I'd pay right now for one of those (For many people though, it's far better than waiting 4-6 months and paying another $1,000 for a new one). Sadly, I don't think I'll be able to find a Mahogany '90s Standard for less than $900 any more! Still - I agree that the auction dood is a complete tool. I forgot it was a '91. Well, more to the point, then. Yes, the end of the sub-$900 Mahogany Standard era is definitely a sad thing. That was the best bargain on a used Hamer out there, right along with the "80 Specials that were almost being given away.
  5. Gimme a break. For a few hundred more than what that one sold for, you could get a brand new one. Hamers have always sold for less than they're worth. Is that a secret around here? Of course they're under-valued. That's one of the things we like about the brand in general. This is the first '95 Standard Custom ("Mint" or otherwise) that I've seen go for more than $1200 - $1300 that wasn't in a color other than '59'burst - that's all I'm saying. cmatthes had a '95 that had a different headstock and I beleive it was a custom order right before they became a catalog item. That one sold for more becuase it was worth more.
  6. '95 Standard Customs see to be plentiful (even I had one). And they always seem to be '59'burst.
  7. Well, I can't fault him for not telling you the reserve (what good is a reserve if you tell someone what it is?), but what he DID tell you was inaccurate to say the least. As a matter of fact, the only truth to it was that the guitar was in fact a Hamer. As for the "limited release" and he MSRP number - uh-uh.
  8. Well, he did revise his ad,but that didn't stop people from bidding too much money for it (the bidding continued even after the update). No way that guitar is worth $1500.
  9. Ok ok....try....patting your head and rubbing your belly!
  10. I disagree. The guy is willing to place the call to you, you should listen to what he has to say. It's not every day he calls customers to explain his decisions. And who says you can't share what is said in the conversation?
  11. "Small, But Mighty!" Happy anniversary, Dave. May The Sofa continue to comfort many in the years to come.
  12. Are we still talking about this?
  13. ...and the masses are asses.
  14. Buy a recent Vector and break off the tip. I'll even help you.
  15. That headstock on a Vee is the one mistake that they won't repeat. You should be thankful.
  16. Absolutely. A couple of grand, easy.
  17. It's a run-of-the-mill '95 Standard Custom in '59Burst. $1200 guitar - NOT a "1980s Era," like the ad says.
  18. There was one on ebaY just a short while ago. I guess the winner isn't you? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...p;rd=1&rd=1 Edited to add: That was a sincere question, not a dig...
  19. You forgot "great kisser."
  20. I'm sure you'll find this hard to believe, but I bought myself a Parker Fly for my 40th birthday, just before I discovered the HFC and rediscovered the joys of Hamer guitars. I sold the Parker about a year ago. And for some odd reason, I miss it. Nothing you do or say could surprise me, McBride.
  21. Good fun! I'll make it one day! ...as soon as Bruce buys a Parker Fly!
