Bidding and retracting your bid (particularly with the expressed intent to snipe) is wrong, but in this case I highly doubt that it will effect this auction. We all pretty much agree that the guitar will probably go over $4k, so the temporary setback in the bidding (even though it crept back up almost to where it was before the bid was retracted) is just that - temporary. The bidding flurry will surely come, so let's not all gather in a torch lit posse just yet.

I remember that happening at least twice in the past few years. One time was on purpose, and the other was ignorance as to the guitar's value. Either way, I cursed out loud both times, that's for sure.

"acb" now owns a white Special which I bought from Scooter, who bought it from Poe, who stole it on ebaY. ...and then there is a certain '78 Sunburst...(two, actually).

I bought it from a Canadian seller on ebaY about four years ago. Sold it to Citrus. Bought it back. Sold it to Woodpile. I was going to buy it back again but didn't. Woody sold it to Pirateflynn (or was there someone inbetween?), who sold it to sonicblue and then to you. Damn neck's too small or I would still own it (a third time).

Yeah, as is typical of threads such as this, you get some real head-scratchers. Slash? He's only the biggest rock guitar icon of the past 20 years. Well, there the exception: All Dean content (and all threads started by BlackMagic for that matter) automatically get moved off the main board. Both are considered non-music and non-sensical by nature.

The Main board, as I understand it, is for all things pertaining to music. Everything else either goes to the OC (or to the FS board). That said, I don't believe there is a cut and dried "guidline" so to speak.

I had been after a spruce-topped Monaco for a while. You'd think that locating the garden variety version of the model would be so easy, but it seems that when you're looking for simple, all you find are maple tops, custom colors, etc. After owning two Newports with spruce tops (one with a Bigsby), and a Monaco III with a maple top, I knew that what I really wanted was to have the spruce top and the Bigsby, but with the longer scale. So, there was no need to look any further than the "standard" Monaco. I've found that I keep gravitating towards the long scale guitars. I think that's why I've always felt so comfortable with a Strat. The black Newport with the 'buckers and the Bigsby that I had recently was almost there. All that was missing was that scale. Even the maple top wasn't the difference-maker there. This Monaco fits the bill to the letter. Typical Hamer quality, with all of the specs I was looking for. And the spruce is so gorgeous, you don't long for flamed maple.
