  1. VERY holy shit!! I love the red logo!! Congratulations, man!! Greg - can we see that neck joint? And maybe I'm forgetting...what are the pickups?
  2. That right there is a persuasive blend of clever and really well done! Congrats! Makes me think there'd be a market for May-ified versions of familiar guit shapes...
  3. Though the solo on this cut was just a blip in time, I remember the element of surprise blowing my doors off...even in a time of funk & rock crossovers, pioneered by Prince and Jesse Johnson. Pretty sure it was a guy named Patrick Buchanan...(!) Might as well go ahead to 1:59...
  4. Well that just plain sucks in all kinds of ways, Kirk. Hopefully something better'll come your way...soon... +1!
  5. I got my MG122 (Burnsy) back from the shop today, with a Lawrence L500 in the bridge (the Duncan 59 stayed put, inna neck), a Schaller 5-way switch (some really cool/useful coil combinations), a setup and 3 finish chips restored, via red Sharpie, Loctite & wet sand. Sounds like a million bucks, plays easy and the dark cherry burst over that amazing quilt still has me in a trance.
  6. Does 38 Special qualify? I always heard Jeff Carlisi as a kind of lesser Buck Dharma, who dignified the pop-country proceedings with playing that was clever, at least. Sometimes, they had songs that were cool, but to their credit, they gave him plenty of room. Come to think of it, the guys in Atlanta Rhythm Section - JR Cobb & Barry Bailey - played some tasty bits, too.
  7. Um... Sounds like parody audio, to me. The lack of sync to video is one hint, though I can't imagine a box office draw like Clapton noodling in uncharted waters, thus.
  8. Thanks - I should pick both of 'em up! Turns out I wasn't looking hard enough. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x9pbd2_the-time-chocolate-snl-90_music#.UTkjnY45cqY Now, where's "Jerk Out"?
  9. Cool. I wanted to find & link The Time's SNL performance, promoting their "Pandemonium" record. It was the original lineup, with Jimmy, Terry and Monte and... Y'know, I've never seen Prince live, but I don't know HOW he could've been more serious than THOSE dudes!
  10. Here're some gaps in my awareness... Got'ny anecdotes along these lines?
  11. +1 to Natalie Maines! Not sure how I missed her.
  12. Harriet Wheeler - The Sundays Inara George - The Bird and the Bee Elizabeth Fraser - Cocteau Twins Belle DuBerry - Paris Combo +1 to Johnette Napolitano Stacey Kent Regina Spektor Imelda May and probly a few more...even some I haven't seen listed, yet.
  13. I've never been able to get into Gary. Maybe it's because he stood next to Scott Gorham - one of my all time favorites - and played like he was paid by the note. He came across as a real ball hog in the "One Night in Dublin" DVD, too. That could be forgivable, here and there, but I find his approach more cliched than clever - both his writing AND playing. Everything is this grand gesture...gets way old.
  14. Any Jeff Berlin record I ever had (gave 'im a coupla chances)...and "Thunder From Down Under", by Frank Gambale. I liked - and still like - a lot of fuso-type stuff, but I advocate a very high setting on the BS meter when handling anything that calls itself "Fusion". Be it ultra-tricky or just ultra-slick, music in the service of showing off is something less than Music.
  15. It's funny, I might have won it if I'd remembered to bid. I don't think I would have gone all the way to $1200, but I briefly considered a bid of $950. Not at this time. I've been much more into hardtails lately. Thanks though! For what it's worth, my Mirage I feels rock solid with the trem' blocked. The 6-screw Wilkie and locking tuners didn't inspire my confidence (without any special set-up attention), so it's one of my 2 "hardtail" axes, functionally speaking.
  16. I'd LOVE to see this topic run long...
  17. Geez, is that house paint?
  18. Forgot about Tony Banks! Yeah, his tunes have done a lot to shape my brain. I think Blackmore is one of the best guitar players of his generation, but from what I've heard about him, I'm happy thinking so from a distance.
  19. I met Danny Gatton a coupla times, at Cubby Bear shows. I was trying to get illustration work, approaching guys who might need CD covers, or something... He was gracious, personable and seemed sincere in complimenting my work. He handed me his Fender signature model one time and crabbed a bit about it. Man, that was huge! I've always been a big BOC fan and when I met Albert Bouchard, I felt a bit of that full-circle feeling, mentioned already. But there too, he was really easy-going and seemed to enjoy talking about the old days. I think he liked seeing my copy of the Stalk Forrest Group CD. He had a big role in writing that one. One of my strong suits is pulling myself together in clutch moments like these, I guess. That's the only way I can explain any bit of composure I've had, the times I've talked with Allan Holdsworth. A lot of guys appreciate the heavy compliments but enjoy talking with the audience/fans about other stuff - sometimes not even music. Y'know...I'm a person with experiences, insights, difficulties...so're they. Maybe you get to a certain age and all you can be is calm and yourself, at any given moment. But... A good test of that would be meeting Jeff Beck. How to even start, much less stay in that conversation?!
  20. Have a great one, dude! I give you a cute girl in pajamas...
  21. I think a manufacturer describing its product as "high-end" reads kinda tackily. Same would go for BS descriptors like "collector grade" and other self-conscious pronouncements. What they're really saying is, "...here's why you should believe in a Rolls Royce version of our same-old brand mascots...and pay even more."
  22. In my current, financial straits, I should have no problem with this kind of commitment. If, on the other hand, Lotto smiles on me...I'd fall off the wagon in a big way. Any future surrender to GAS should be predicated on that very if.
  23. Forgot about the Impact guitar, of course. +1!
  24. I can't summon all the possible options, concerning woods, finishes and hardware configurations, so in general terms it'd be... a Virtuoso with a Floyd', a Monaco Super Pro and a Talladega with a sustain block. Course, I'm always seeing objects of desire here that I'd've never imagined...
