No More Hamer, Ever
Rodan replied to Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I worked with his brother briefly, at Washburn. Yuriy built his own guitars back then and they were amazing! THERE's a strong argument for very particular dedication...it seems to run in the Shishkov family, at least. -
Well, it was fun....... but it's over.

I bought my first Hamer from you and Mike - a Cali' Standard, in blackcherry metalflake. Loved that axe and wish I could have it back (in the same condition). Kudos to you guys for getting me away from the offshore, eye candy guitars. And I still have the Pearce G2R combo...is Mike displaying my CD cover painting prominently, somewhere? -
You see me coming a mile away, but I'd add Diablo's to the list. A more organic Cali', with the same shape, rounder edges and no scalloped cutaways. Double hum, yes - though I'd add a 5-way blade switch for versatility... I think 2Tek is still around (?)... Would that be too niche for guitar models?

+1. -
I started thinking of high-visibility players I'd want playing my guitars and Guthrie Govan came to mind. I thought of Mattias Eklundh too, whose guitars have that True Temperament fret system on them. That reminded me of Hamer's bragging point about being first to use new/innovative technologies. It'd be nice to keep that reputation in a conformist industry. I'd look out for MEANINGfully innovative ideas, I mean...technologies with relevance for players. No Firebird X or expensive, robo/automatically-tuning gimmickry... I'd definitely avoid copy versions of Gibby & Fender models. It may all derive from them, to some degree, but Hamer has produced some brilliant designs which shouldn't be lost. I think production should also embrace 25.5" and 24.75" scale lengths. I'm no business mind... Just ideas.

Anyone that makes that claim would be incorrect. Drag. Are there plans for continuing warranty/product support (sorry if this has been answered...)? Hamer service has always been money in the bank. If not, any liquidation of parts stock? -

That's some kinda striking! +1 on the wiring inquiry... -
Here's a dumb idea. How 'bout a truss rod cover shaped and embellished like a rattleĀ®?
-
No, man. That looks GOOD!

Brooks, that's true, with the greater size of the block, there's less room in the cavity for movement. It does depend on the guitar, as my Charvel Star has a big block in it and the range is pretty copious. My Cali's all have big blocks in them and I haven't noticed any restriction on the range of the pull ups. To be fair, I haven't pulled the bar up past one step on the Cali's. I was wondering about this. If I get into it with my Diablo's or my Chap' I'll have to take a few measurements, to make sure I've got leeway for at least a whole step sharp...

YEAH! NOT your usual snake colors - and WELL worth the refin'!

Hamer-licensed Floyd Roses -are they hard to find?
Rodan replied to zorrow's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I got a black one - with the Hamer logo stamp - from Kim Keller, a few years ago. Not sure how the reserves are holding up, but it might be worth an e-mail... -

Swoooooon! I played one like this at Make'n' Music, awhile back. Beautiful in every way...and that neck joint/sculpted heel! I think I'm ready for those Lotto winnings, already! -

Your Favorite 15 Minutes of Fusion Ever Recorded?
Rodan replied to FrankieIII's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Just 15 minutes? Impossible for me...though I'm right with everyone who listed Holdsworth and McLaughlin. Here're a couple of other favorites of mine... I love the Rhodes solo @ 5:14... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lubGHpeE6jU Lenny White was in many ways the MAN! -
BCSrides's midlife crisis guitar - Steve Stevens 1 SS1
Rodan replied to bcsride's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
That looks like a cool "player", as it is. The coverless single coils, the gold tooth look of the one nickel saddle, not a lot of fret wear (?), the ebony board...(!!!) Well grabbed, sir! -
Hamers and Others For Sale

Man, before I got my (very portable) DC-5, that Trem-o-Verb was all I ever wanted! Just a real slugger, I bet... THD looks nice... Shit, I'm under austerity measures.- 22 replies

Y'know, Mayer IS really good. He's also had a coupla songs that I've liked. And I STILL don't own anything of his. Interestingly, his millions of dollars and proven ability to manipulate damaged starlets hasn't changed this for me... I find his personal immaturity distracting. I mean, HOW good is he? With huge numbers of similarly talented players and more consistently great songwriters out there, all vying for recognition, he presents himself as kind of a mookish media whore (see Stratacus' link, above). I could get around the character flaws, but why? Sure. I understand that he laughs all the way to the bank, but...y'know, so does one cookie-cutter pop star after another. Not newsworthy, IMHO. Maybe I'll watch a couple episodes of the eventual JM reality show...

OK, I've just picked up a coupla old Fleetwood Mac's - https://www.youtube....h?v=qewcr1zOnx0 https://www.youtube....h?v=_O8ejbrJPk4 Wondering, even as radio-friendly as the Buckingham/Nicks lineup was, how did it COMPLETELY eclipse stuff like this?

D'ya think he might do a players stop at Legends? Hard pressed to think of any other likely venues with real cred'...

Maybe they aren't Hamers, but they're cool......

I love both of the Artisan designs pictured in this thread! That has to be an all-time, cake-taking, brilliant combination of 'Paul and SG styles! And the rounded rings on the carved top...(sigh) If you ask me, this design should've secured the fortunes of any guitar company. Sad to see work like this pass into history.
