I dunno. My Checkerboard Special was not refined, nor was my Special Korina Junior…both were nasty…and with P90s, my Artist Korina is rather rude, but it doesn’t have the oomph that you speak of. I have never owned a proper Les Paul, (other than a Junior) so what do I know? My Monaco Elite Mahogany sure sounded Les Paul like…and 0006 sounds like classic rock personified. so maybe I need to buy a nice LP just for a proper comparison.

60s weird psychedelic folk-rock with some beatnik jazz thrown in….then bubblegum….Bon was determined to make it is music. We tend to forget the 60s generated some really strange music as well as the rock we all love. Pre Brit-invasion soul has some GREAT records that are all but overlooked now. And then there is stuff like this. They needed a bongo player.

If Celestion could make 86db models of GBs, g12h, V30s, and the Blue, they’d sell silly amounts….but they’d have to sound like their full power counterparts….and I don’t know if that is physically possible.

According to what I’ve read over the years, Fogerty was a bit overbearing in the studio with his band mates….to the point of showing them exactly the parts he wanted them to play. I do not say that as a criticism, necessarily. He was the songwriter and his songs made that band. I get wanting creative control. I would love to have been a fly on the wall when CCR was in pre-production and actually recording so I could learn from Fogerty’s process and see how much control he actually had back then. He remains a fine player, singer, and songwriter.

A friend of mine who knew him well said he was a really nice guy too.

If you like the EV12L idea but wish it wasn’t so hifi, find an EV SRO alnico coffee can speaker. Prolly the greatest alnico ever made. 22lbs of goodness. Key to the Nugent 70s tone. Amazing speakers.
