Never a KISS a fan here, but I did dig Ace’s solos and vibe. He was playing rock and roll with a blues-rock mentality of “turn it up and watch me play” . The way he played defined 70s rock in so many ways. RIP.

You have to decide what Plexi means and what P,exi tone you are looking for. A JTM-JMP-1974-2061 are all actual Plexis. When most people,e talk about the Plexi sound, they mean the JMP 1959 100 watter or the 1987 50 watter. But it can mean the JTM or the Bluesbreaker (JTM combo). And the 70s JMPs got hotter and brighter as the decade went on concluding with the JCM. The 1968 JMP circuit is considered by many t9 e the best, but horses for courses. My Valvetech 25 will do t(e tweed 5f6axJTM and JMP tones. My TopHatMini Junior HG has the 1968 preamp and will do 5f6a-JTM-JMP-JCM I like the versatility and those circuits varied based upon component values. Decide what Plexi tone/circuit you want and grab one that is built to those specs and match speakers accordingly. The 50 watt JMP circuit with a 20 watt 6v6 power section does it for me at sane volumes and sounds like, well, a Plexi. Plenty great Marshall builders out there.

I used both an SBUS and an SBUK for the church gig. Per typical, the US didn’t work for me unless I was on the tweed setting. The UK was magic. If I was still playing on a church praise team, I’d buy on in an instant. My musical collaborator and Rumpel Pickup owner AC uses the US as his main jazz amp. He p,ay is some SERIOUS jazz projects and he makes the US sound amazing.

Ok…you prolly know what I am gonna say..,here are two KILLER options: 1. TopHat Mini Junior High Gain (HG) combo in 20 watts..,a 1968 JMP preamp married to a 20 watt 6v6 output section. Does tweed Bassman-JTM-JMP-JCM with some preamp tweaks. A perfect plexi for me. Order one and wait for Brian to build it…or.., 2. Retro Rockitt 50 watt JMP Plexi head in black and tan, I’ll meet you in St Louis to deliver, we’ll have a couple Old Fashioneds and you can pay the true owner (HFC mystery) if you like it.,,which you most certainly will. Both are fucking rocking plexi options. Oh, and @RobB is so very correct, a treble booster into a plexi is a wonderful thing.

ok...The music to Beautiful Mess was written around 2009 with different lyrics. Then it was called These Are The Good Old Days...when me and my collaborator AC decided to record it for an upcoming 2021 rock album, the lyrics just didn’t fit with the shit show of a year 2020 turned into. So I wrote new lyrics and we recorded the song this Fall. I used my Hamer Newport through my blonde Bassman with Greenback 10s in the cab for the main rhythm part and for the fills. I changed to the bass channel of the amp for the fills cause it is nasty. AC played the Hamer Special I found in the pawn shop and sent him for the solo through with a tweed Deluxe or his Muleskinner tweed Princeton. I played my 2-tek Cruisebass with Gravelin Jbass pickups for the bass line direct. AC played the drums. I sang lead while he provided BGVs. We both recorded in Reaper as our DAW with a combination of outboard gear (preamps, compressors, east) as well as plugins. I mixed and mastered this one myself. It will be on the A.C. Rev 2021 rock album which I hope to have done in the March-April timeframe.
