  1. Interesting thread, praying that it happens. The main downer would be as mentioned above, the competition (Gibson & Fender etc) at the price point suggested they have plenty of products available (which even with their massive marketing machine they're having a difficult time selling). I hate to say it but the only way I can see this happening (for anything like $1000) is if a large portion of the work (basic shaping of bodies and neck blanks) was done outside the U.S. where labour is cheaper. Perhaps final assembly, paint etc could be in the U.S. The quality of (some) import guitars (particularly Japan) is now so good the "made in" is (almost) irrelevant. The other main obstacle (also mentioned earlier) is clear from reading this thread, everyone wants something different. A working mans guitar needs no binding, no fancy fret markers, a simple and cost effective single colour paint job, 1 Humbucker with a pull to split the coils a volume and (possibly) a tone pot. If you want 2 pickups, binding and fancy inlays etc then take the basic guitar to your local shop and get them to tart it up as you like.
  2. Damn, the more of you drawn into this madness the better my chances of picking up a bargain.
  3. Whatever the article says the peace symbol was around a long, long time before the CND claimed it and stuck it on a badge. It's a Norse Rune called Algiz (meaning Elk). Its original meaning is unknown but I'm now sure it means "This guitar sucks".
  4. Well done to the winners, no way I was going to be able to do this. Any of you going to join the 2014 BNGC and try for 2 years?
  5. Proof (as if anyone needed it) that once again Gibson have completely lost the plot. Is there an unwritten rule that large guitar companies have to be run by complete fuckwits.
  6. My holy(ish) Grail is a White pearl Gibson 79 Flying V with Block inlays, I've tracked one down but the price makes my Hamers look like real bargains......................... Still looking for a B&C early Standard then my Hamer lust might be satiated (for now). I might have to let a couple go if the stars align correctly for the V.
  7. Can we custom order Guild to build Gibson style Explorers with flame maple tops, bound bodies and crown inlays ??
  8. TRUE. Nice pic too. First fret crown inlay, whats that on ?
  9. As a quick first check I would take the cavity cover off and check the solder joints for the P/Us, and the soldering in general, does it all look like it was done at the same time ? If it all looks clean, undisturbed and tidy it's a good start. To be really sure you would need to pull them out though and others here know much more than me about what to look for.
  10. Nice one. Looks similar to my Strat plus but with a humbucker in the bridge. GLW Cali Sale.
  11. Death is too good a punishment for scumbags who do this sort of thing.
  12. Very nice job. I always wondered what the deal was with the MB Theile cabs that made them more money than the open backed 1x12's and now I know.
  13. Made wine from (apart from the usual stuff) Parsley, lettuce (which re-fermented in the bottles and tasted like champagne ish), beetroot and huckleberries (which looked and tasted like meths but was well potent).
  14. Looking good, is it for drinking or running the car on ?
  15. It arrived today. Thanks to Clint for a trouble free transaction. Good luck with the home brewing. Rich.
  16. ^^He said it too !!^^
  17. Sorry it's red but it is a Limited edition........ http://willcuttguitars.com/CatalogueRetrieve.aspx?ProductID=2099188&A=SearchResult&SearchID=7269428&ObjectID=2099188&ObjectType=27 Did someone say penis ?
  18. They did allow a final "run" when they removed all restrictions and let people submit last-call orders for any variation of anything ever affiliated with the brand. Yes I know i'm a whining cry baby. If they had said they would be shutting down the company then I would have had a little more motivation to put in a C/O, as it was there was no real warning from Hamer (AFAIK) it would all be coming to an end. I'm assuming there would be no problems from the Luthiers on the shop floor to doing this ?
  19. I know, I know. I've never liked buying "new" guitars, I hate the depreciation but for the chance to get a final run together (which btw I'm really surprised FMIC haven't thought about doing as a way to say farewell to Hamer) I would happily get my wallet out. Others here know better than me so is there any chance we could persuade FMIC to do a final run if we got a list of orders (what would be a minimum to suggest hmmmm is 35 for the 35 Years of Hamer production too many?) just B&C Standard standards nothing fancy. How many others would be up for it ? I'd take 2.
  20. Bloody hell. It's a fucking tragedy you won't be doing this for Hamer for much longer. Is there any chance of us being able to put together a HFC group purchase request to FMIC for a last run of Standards (nothing weird just the original specs all B&C, surely if there were say 10 - 20 of us that wanted it they would be crazy not to do it. Who would be the contact at FMIC ? Anyone know ? So do you know when or what or who the last one will be for ?
  21. This is the one getting most playing at the moment. Having a Standard as a daily hack is difficult as they're so bulky they pick up damage really easily, this one has already taken a lot of knocks so a few more aren't going to worry me (much) plus it sounds great.
  22. WOW. Do you have to pay them extra to work on Saturdays ?
  23. I'll take the Lollar if it's still for sale and you're ok to post to the U.K.
  24. If I remember correctly it's called an exothermic reaction.
  25. Why the Fu(k did it take so long for this thread to get started ? Think of all the inspiration for custom orders it would have generated, now it just makes me pissed that it's all going to stop soon................ But please don't stop posting those lovely pics (just because I'm a grumpy bastard that never had the nuts to put in a C/O) while still you can guys, I'm sure we all appreciate the inside story.
