  1. There was an obscure and cheap chicken restaurant in Paris with the most awesome piquant mayonnaise ever called Hector Le Poulet which I loved (and sadly is no more)...so it's Hector P
  2. These inlays? Yes, those inlays....
  3. I have a Ferrari Red Steve Stevens II (sustain block,,,,and many other goodies) in the works through BCR. I have no idea whether they've started it or not. It's going to be way over the top. That sounds awesome! I love the SS II - what details can you give us on the features? 3-coil Barden (white) in the bridge; single coil Barden at neck; blade switch and..... drum roll please... Twirly boomerang inlays (like Vernon Reid)... I can't wait. I heard build time is 3 months

  5. Don't give up on it! And +1 on Magnolia - very quirky but good movie; the soundtrack is even better. Some awesome Aimee Mann tracks....but I fear we're bogarting this post....
  6. Clue me in. I don't get the raining frogs joke. See the movie "Magnolia." The movie features a number of different loosely linked stories each of which evolves in utterly surprising and bizarre ways. At the end the movie there's a pseudo apocalyptic rain of frogs...that somehow unites the stories (since it happens to all in the city where the action is set). I don't remember the movie perfectly but I found it to be really good and compelling.
  7. Wow: Chris, that's fantastic. What a great high point in a young life.
  8. I know....after years of being told "No." Soon it 'Twill be a good day
  9. The guy screwed UP the company that this forum pays homage to. He ridiculed this forum constantly. Get your facts straight and try again. And Rob....we do not "have the Hamer that we always wanted". That Hamer was 8-10 years ago. THAT Hamer invited us to the factory. Dr. No never came to a jam. I DO wish him well. And when we can get the Hamer company unfoogered and back on track, I hope he's got his thing going well enough that he won't come back. I'm getting the Hamer I always wanted. Just ask the young master. Happy days are here again.
  10. Happy to see Kaki King near the top. She's is a total inspiration (and she plays Hamers when she's playing electric)
  11. FYI...Just to avoid possible confusion, It's the "CNA Building" not C&A...although they sound the same when said
  12. Nah, probably hairy-pitted, patchouli-smelling hippie chicks like usual. Although last week I interviewed a trial lawyer from Alabama who's appearing naked in the pay site this weekend and she said she's into jam bands, so who knows? When you do the "interview" remember that they don't like 'winkies'
  13. Go, Young Badger Dave. Since you are a chicagoan...we must party. Tributosaurus is covering the Beatles in the first week of June...and so on...
  14. He's an awesome guy. I'm having dinner with Paul in a couple of weeks at the Cliffdweller's club in Chicago (and Mimi from Pezband and few other friends). I will definitely ask him about this...
  15. Maybe in next season of Mad Men, they'll show a blissful suburban scene of kids playing with Jarts. But back to the point... Let the wild "obvious" rumpus begin! Swirly Boomers for everyone!
  16. Stage fright: Whatever he was taking sure worked. If you go out to YouTube, there's a vid of them doing Respectable Street in which I would have to rate Andy Partridge as one of the most energetic, high vitality, unafraid performers I have ever seen in any genre.
  17. Wow, you guys really got it covered. Don't forget "Crocodile" from Nonesuch Oranges and Lemons is my desert island album Allow me to add my votes for: Respectable Street Earn Enough for us (in my opinion, the lyrics of this working man's anthem are superb) Chalkhills and Children Satellite Seasons Cycle The Garden of Earthly Delights Merely a Man At the Hop Dukes of Stratosfear: Little Lighthouse In Chicago, the local band Tributosaurus 'became' XTC last April at the Park West. It was brilliant and I believed they planned on doing it again this year. If you're local, you should definitely see it. It's like seeing an off off broadway production plus infectious cameraderie of great local musicians (selected for the event from other local bands, like Poi Dog Pondering) plus love of the material plus note-perfect renditions...When I saw them they even brought in the "Tributosaurus Strings" for 1000 umbrellas.
  18. Look forward to hearing the review. I believe this is the first two tone/two volume Hamer... which allows you to do cool pickup blends (bridge volume/tone on 10 with neck volume on 2 and tone on 0)....etc. I love the pickups in my Elite...in fact, it's the only Hamer I recall ever getting that I had absolutely no desire to modify in any way.
  19. I will soon be having that experience... Except I'm putting a MuyGrande humbucker at the bridge (and a Muy grande single in a 3-coil ring) and a half breed in the neck. Both of these are splittable. Th pickups are on order from Young Master Greg at BCR. I'll let you know how it turns out.
  20. Re: "The lip" Right. I'm trying to assemble my own 3-coil and I had to special order a Rio MuyGrande Single Coil without the lip. In case anyone is interested in doing the same thing, you can call Dave at Rio and he will create one for you.
  21. Thank you! The G&L Saddle Lock bridge is a stone cold bargain in bridge design. Adjustable for intonation and individual saddle height. Then you can lock them all together to increase the unified mass of the bridge. It's inexpensive for what it is, too--$79.95 in 5-string bass or guitar versions, $69.95 for 4-string. Try to match that with a Hipshot. An additional coolness factor of the 5-string bass version is that you can string it thru-bridge or thru-body. The Saddle Lock bridge has a casting that sticks down into the guitar body. The tighter the tension, the more it transfers sound to the end-grain of the guitar body, resulting in a very clean, yet full and musical sound that brings more of the wood into the tone. That's cool....Is there something like this for guitar?
  22. The Firebird I is the most beautifully designed minimalist guitar. I've seen Les Claypool Perform on a one string 'bass' that's basically just a bar and and a clamp. He rocks that thing. Here's Claypool rocking the "Whamola." He may be for special tastes, but in my view he's a genius performer
  23. Here's a great one from Duffy...Warwick Avenue.
  24. Francis Ford Coppolla did an unusual movie called "One from the Heart" which featured a soundtrack with songs sung by Tom Waits and Crystal Gayle. Almost the whole thing is sad, but especially good are: Old boyfriends I beg your pardon This one's from the heart Take me Home Also +1 for whoever said "In My Life"
  25. This is the difference between "scarce" and "rare." I think for the time being, the Phantom Custom is almost the opposite of collectible...if by collectible you mean something that has a dollar value higher than its useful value. The good news is that the useful value of the PC is so high: great build quality; versatile; great design...we can all wonder whether its resale value will ever catch up with that. You may have seen a few weeks ago, some chap with a really cool guitar for sale...a 1984 Sportomatic. In the consensus of this board, that was a very collectible Hamer. On eBay, the bidding didn't go above $1300 if I remember correctly. I think he was expecting around $2500 or more. You might be able to get $800 or so for the PC...but other than to weather out the temporary stinkiness of this economy, I wouldn't hold it thinking it will be worth many thousands later on.
