Those must have been epic.

That's one word for it.

As for BC Rich basses... never really understood the allure. Yes, lots of knobs and buttons, but pointy and not nice ergonomics. Give me a Music Man stingray any day of the week over any other bass. Except maybe a Rick. Nothing sounds like a rick.

"Ergonomics"?

You're kidding, right?

I think you need to buy a BC Rich Eagle bass.

I've had this Eagle Bass since the early '80s

So, honestly, how is it? Do you use all the switches and knobs? I don't even know what they do, though I think it has some type of Varitone like control? How's the balance? How's the neck? The Eagle is the only BC Rich body shape that I actually like and wouldn't worry about breaking / poking myself with.

Fart noises, mostly.

Like this? Also honestly the most prominent BC Rich Bass in my memory, which is probably the same for the entire world. The one everyone wants.

So, if there is some awareness that not all of this ilk have a G on the headstock, I would call this one of the better "copies"......Hartung Sephir 11.jpgHartung Sephir 12.jpg

Kinda lost track of who went where when. Did Ting ever get his pool cleaned out?

Michael is doing well.  He's really been busy creating a wetland habitat in his swimming pool.  It's incredible.  He's also got a pair of iguanas named Harrison and Naomi.  Doesn't lurk here, but did tell me to tell you he said hello.  He's on FaceBook, if anyone wants to reach out.

There is an active varitone that works much better than a passive one, (and without the big volume drop), it's got a basic preamp too. The three mini switches in line allow each pickup to be in series, or parallel, as well as out of phase with each other. All useful sounds.

That sounds pretty cool. Question, as always, is whether I'd actually use them. It seems like the more options a bass has, the less likely I am to actually use it. I guess I'm too much of a Geddy Lee "everything on full" player.

You don't need to flick the switches if you don't want to... but when the guitarist steps on a pedal and you need to get louder... it's there... if you get lost in a dark room you can do something about it.

Here's my one and only reissue Les Paul. 2018 R8 VOS Historic. I swapped out the pickups early on for one of Josh Gravelin's lovely PAF's (neck) and a Lollar Imperial, low wind (bridge). Gonna hang onto this one for as long as the fates permit.

Yeah, you should have been here during "the drama" years in the mid 2000's. 😅 The place has not been the same since it got cleaned up. Still just as fun to hang here though. And lots of knowledge. Not just about Hamer guitars, but guitars and music in general. There are regular posters who disappeared that I miss. But some come back, like @Feynman and others that were away for a while. I used to visit several guitar message boards but these days this is the only one I visit regularly.

I think maybe the three (or more?) Hamer groups on Facebook has taken over some of the action. But those are not as fun as this place.

I’ve been reading about that time here recently, thanks to the tribute post that @kizanski made.  I wasn’t here for that period, but I felt like I recognized it, because I cut my teeth in the OT flame wars of the Harmony Central Amp Forum starting back in ‘01/02.  Not only pre-Musician’s Friend, but pre-moderation of any sort. 😳😱🤯🤣

I sometimes get nostalgic for those “wild west” days … but then I remember the years of tendinitis that came with them… 😭
