stratacus Posted August 14, 2025 Posted August 14, 2025 (edited) Nice looking 1980 Hamer USA Special non-checkerboard on Sweetwater Gear Exchange for $2100 Edited August 15, 2025 by stratacus 3 Quote
cynic Posted August 14, 2025 Posted August 14, 2025 Looks very much like the '80 Special I used to own. Of all the Hamer's I've owned it's the only one I ever really regretted selling. 1 Quote
Bobby Marshall Posted August 14, 2025 Posted August 14, 2025 This looks very much like the Hamer that Serial had that drew me to learn more about Hamer. Someone is gonna get a cool guitar. Quote
velorush Posted August 14, 2025 Posted August 14, 2025 (edited) I've been watching that one on Reverb: 1980 Hamer Special - Great Player - Ready For ANY Style! | Reverb Watching because the neck seemed oddly large for the vintage: Weight: 8lb 5oz | Nut: W 1.66 H .89 | 12th: W 1.98 H 0.90 Can't figure out if the finish is solid or translucent. I think I see some curly maple veneer, but it might just be the lighting. Edited August 14, 2025 by velorush Quote
bsteff666 Posted August 14, 2025 Posted August 14, 2025 That one used to be mine. It is a great guitar. I really should have kept it. Yes…the neck is more substantial than any other early 80’s Special I’ve played. It was really the width that made the biggest impact. It’s wider than any of the others I have & it has a wider spaced bridge as well. The finish is opaque with a very fine metallic in it. But in the right light…you can see the flame and it is a nice looking top. 3 1 Quote
Jakeboy Posted August 15, 2025 Posted August 15, 2025 Damn…my 1980 Cboard Special was so, so resonant….but it had the thin neck…Ishould have kept it…this one tho, with the bigger neck… 1 Quote
HamerCustomEr Posted August 15, 2025 Posted August 15, 2025 Yes, I remember a 1981 Hamer Special in red with a 1-9/16" wide nut (1.56". Too narrow for me! 1 Quote
JOE_CPWE Posted August 15, 2025 Posted August 15, 2025 I really loved my trans red Hamer Special when I owned it in high school & college. I wish I'd had the foresight and finances to keep it. I'd own two electrics, if one came in another would go for sale/trade. 1 Quote
cmatthes Posted August 15, 2025 Posted August 15, 2025 My first Hamer was an '81 Special in Ferrari Red. If it had a bigger neck, I might still own it! 1 Quote
