Pieman Posted October 26, 2025 Posted October 26, 2025 Curious. Was this a “student guitar,” size wise, that is. Body shape, I think. Neck length? If so, can you comment on playability? Quote
santellavision Posted October 26, 2025 Author Posted October 26, 2025 (edited) Most consider the basic Gibson models like SG and Les Paul Jrs as student guitars. They were cheaper models with less frills. But, they also made some in 3/4 size too. I had a 3/4 size Melody Maker like this one. Only 19 frets. Edited October 26, 2025 by santellavision 2 Quote
bubs_42 Posted October 27, 2025 Posted October 27, 2025 I have a 1964 SG Junior, and it is one of my favorite guitars. Nothing does exactly what it does, and the neck is perfect, it is so resonant. Everyone needs an esquire, and an SG Junior. 5 Quote

cmatthes Posted October 27, 2025 Posted October 27, 2025 I'm truly hoping to hear that this one didn't have a big, beefy neck... 🤞 Quote

My #1 is my Les Paul R8 with a half a baseball bat. I am hoping this Junior is a fatty. Tracking says it lands tomorrow evening. Thanks Ernie! 4 Quote

kizanski Posted October 31, 2025 Posted October 31, 2025 The 2001 SG Junior I had back then had a log for a neck. 5 Quote

It's what started the whole Junior thing for me. Sold it to pay the rent (somewhere around $300). Still bums me out. 1 Quote
