The Shark Posted August 28 Posted August 28 (edited) So, it never used to bother me when someone writes or states that a guitar "plays like butter". Then, I noticed that my buddy Mike (Kizanski) was really aggravated by it. After mentioning it a thousand times or more, it started to bother me too. It's gotten to the point that I want to reply, "What does butter play like". I prefer beef tallow, but that's for a different conversation entirely! Hopefully, nobody will start a new, and no less problematic statement, "It plays like beef tallow"... 😎 Edited August 28 by The Shark 3 Quote
Saul Goodman Posted August 28 Posted August 28 I can tell you what butter plays like. It plays like a 1980 Gibson "The Paul." 2 Quote
Dutchman Posted August 28 Posted August 28 When I hear "plays like Butter" I interpret that to be very low action fast and easy to play. I've also heard "smooth as Butter" same meaning. As does "tuned by Angel's" which has nothing to do with Butter. But means the same as the butter statements. Then there's the gotta fight it a little. Which has nothing to do with fighting! So expressions about how a guitar plays really are not very good, but for some reason all guitar players understand them. So that brings to question "do guitar players have their own language" I dare say "Yes...Yes they do! So Crank It and Melt some faces!!! Quote

kizanski Posted August 29 Posted August 29 I only asked if it played like butter because it was a Shae guitar. You know Shea... Shea butter? No? Nobody? 1 4 Quote

Your quip posted just as I was about to post the same thing. I guess the writes joke themselves here. Edited August 29 by RobB 1 Quote

mrjamiam Posted August 30 Posted August 30 "Plays like butter" always puts me in mind of a locally infamous used gear seller who had a housefull of guitars and amps. I bought a couple or three there early along in my guitar interest resurgance, but it very much seemed to me that the seller must have invited buddies over in the evening and shared buckets of fried chicken as they passed the guitars around, they were so dirty and greasy. So - plays like schmaltz? 2 Quote
Saul Goodman Posted August 30 Posted August 30 I'll tell you again how butter plays. Like a 2001 Gibson Historic LPC/SG. Quote
MPR Posted August 30 Posted August 30 (The Butah was actually the first overdrive pedal I ever bought back in the day, after finally conceding that my 4x10 Hot Rod Deville needed help getting a good drive sound at low volume.) 1 Quote
