Why "she"?

Why are cars and guitars referred to as "she" and "Her"?

Jeffro's Bonehead is getting "her" bridge replaced. Bonehead?

When did guitars and cars become gender specific?

I think guitars usually get a woman's name because:

They feel good in your hands.

It seems no matter what mood you're in, they're a willing companion.

If you massage them just right, you get cool sounds out of them.

They need their necks rubbed with oil occasionally.... or steel wool if they're especially uncooperative.

Some days they sound like a Korina Standard through a Marshall; other days they sound like a Hondo though a Peavey.

When you make them listen to themselves, they can break into a loud scream.

Once you have one - you want another one.

Why a guitar is BETTER than a woman... :P

Cuz, like my woman, I own the bee-atch.

Dude, if there was still a rating system you'd get a +2 for that one...

NO doubt.... :P

You're not from this planet, are you?

Good point, Greg. I'll start referring to Bonehead as "he." But I'm still not naming the damn dog "Bait."

It was early. Pre-coffee. You may have a point.

If it is attached to your own body I think it becomes a "he" but if not, it's a "she." If you're a male, that is. Opposite applies to the female gender.

Personally, I think naming guitars, cars, toaster ovens, etc, anything with a person's name, or assigning a gender to it is kinda silly.

I mean I have owned a lot of guitars and a lot of cars, but I can't remember calling one a "human" name.

"What guitar are you going to play tonight?"

"Oh, I think I'll play Kevin."

"Yea, dude! Kevin ROWKS!"

Not that I have not named guitars, but they are names that aid in description (if you have 3 of the same guitar, this helps when labeling that guitar case), not to apply "personality" or gender.

Some stupid names of past and present guitars:

"Junior" - it's a Jr.

"Senior" - it was ordered at the same time as Junior and was decked out the same way, so what else would I call it?

"Woody" - because "Woodpile" custom ordered it, it was unique, and I bought it from him ("Woody" is not a "real" name, so I allowed it this once).

"HEMIBIRD" - self-explanitory.

"DayPOEna" - a Daytona I bought from POE.

"Lemon" - an '81 Fender Strat that I bought brand new that turned out to be a lemon, and not only because it was RFY Yellow.

"175" - an '82 Special that I bought on ebaY for $175.

"Aceburst" - BCR Greg named it so after doing the 3-double-cream-humbucker-mod.

"Boomerang" - a '78 Sunburst that I sold. It came back, so I bought it again.
